Q: How easy is it to clean off?

Very easy! I don't use a paper towel since it will leave debris but more of a microfiber towel with some warm water - comes right off and doesn't leave any ghost-like marks!

Q: How long are the mounting screws? Can they be used for mounting to plywood?

The mounting screws included are 1” in length. They are designed for the included wall anchors for drywall and are not wood screws. With a pre-drilled hole in the plywood, the screws would work.

Q: Is the black surface made out of metal, or is it a magnetic paper adhesive that magnets can adhere to?

I don't know what the surface is made of, but it isn't metal. I saw a photo that a customer uploaded to the listing page for the 18 x 22 board (identical style) and the surface was badly wrinkled: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0761236HZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_aK0lCbRY4M25M The manufacturer below flat-out lied.
