Case Files Psychiatry
Used this book for my 3rd year psychiatry rotation in medical school. Found it fairly complete for common (i.e. need to know psychiatric conditions). I also appreciated how similar conditions are contrasted in order to help you better understand; which helps when taking the Shelf exam. Book size is on the small to medium size. I was able to carry it in my white coat though I could tell it was there. Found it helpful to read during downtime. Each chapter is very short and can be read fairly quickly. Index is also well marked to make it easy to quickly look up different conditions. Would also recommend a good neurology review for the shelf as the two fields are closely linked.

A must-have for the psychiatry shelf exam
A must-have for the psych shelf exam. This was the only resource I used and I passed first time. If you're shooting for high grades on your shelf exam, you'll need other resources, but for a book that can be read cover to cover in just a couple days, this is a great studying tool.

Great for psych shelf exam
I used this for my psych clerkship and it was really useful. I mainly just skimmed through the case presentations and used the practice questions at the end of each case, any questions I missed then I would look at the explanations. I used this in supplement to the psych first aid book which was more than enough to ace the psych shelf exam.

Great book for newbies and those with experience.
I mainly deal with adolescents with addiction histories. Other diagnosis are commonly associated with addictions. Many children are misdiagnosed. This book helps not only learn but remember differential diagnosis and presentations of common psychiatric illness. I am glad the emphasis was on this and not treatment.

One of the better books in the Case Files series
I was able to read this book in the 3 days before my third year shelf exam as my sole source and scored above the 80th percentile (I had also payed attention during the clerkship and studied psychiatry pretty thoroughly during my preclinical years). I thought it was very useful and especially helpful in the differential diagnosis section where similar disorders were well differentiated from each other.

Case Files for Psych
amazing study guide for psych! This was pretty much the only book I used for my rotation and it was definitely more than I needed. the cases are great, the explanations are clear and accurate. good breadth included.

Case Files are great
I use these Case File books during my rotations and to study for my end of rotation shelf exams. I think they are a valuable asset. Would recommend to others.

So-so
so so book. i recommend first aid for psych clerkship + pretest for your psych shelf. The cases were very obvious and i didn't feel they offered much. The only plus of this book is the pharmacology chapter.

Great review for the NBME
Case Files is a great review for the psychiatry NBME. It goes over all of the important presentations and treatments. I barely used any other resources while studying for the NBME, and was pleased with my results.
