Bacteria: A Very Short Introduction covers a lot of information about the types of bacteria, how they affect other organisms on the planet, including humans, and how humans have both used beneficial bacteria and have tried to stop harmful bacteria using fungicides and antibiotics. As at least one previous review has mentioned that the use of the Latin names is a bit daunting for someone not familiar with the field. I think the author should have covered the morphology of the different bacteria during the introductory chapter. He should have also described what is inside a bacteria besides mentioning gram positive and negative types as well as how they feed. I did not think he provided enough information about aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and he did not really discuss mesophilic, thermophilic, and hyperthermophilic bacteria. The author provided good cautionary warnings about the limitations of antibiotics and antibiotic research and development. I found this book worthwhile.

A great summary but not for the novice.
Small print, concise, great overview of the pioneers with good illustrations. I am glad that I took bacteriology in college and kept up with it over the years. On my shelf for a ready reference that I need.
