WEN 948 10 Amp Variable Speed Polisher with Digital Readout, 7"

Ok, lets be honest. This is not a Craftman. But you'll never know it. Its a car polishers dream machine. It was received within 1 day of order, and went to work the same day. Nice. They don't mention the fact that the buffer has a "idle mode" in which the buffer slows to an idle when you pull it off of whatever you are working on, instead of whirling on load speed. That save me brushes. I like that, Have used maybe 5 times since receiving it. Worked perfect every time. Quality is equal to Craftsman, at half the price. Owned a Wen buffer before, this one is leaps ahead of the older model. Would I buy it again, hell yeah. But it will be a while the way this one is going.

Edit: I gave it away to a less fortunate detailer as I've upgraded to a cordless model. The WEN is STILL GOING. Edit: May 21, 2020 and still working. This thing has saved me so much time and labor. Edit: Still going strong after a year. I use this 3-4 times a day, 5 days a week. If it quit right now, I'd buy another instantly. I am a detailer (for 18 yrs now) and I bought this to use with a 4 inch wooden wheel brush to clean mats, interior carpet, headliners and cloth seats. It is fantastic for what I use it for. It is lightweight, so it is comfortable to use with one hand holding the grip or just one hand holding the head. It keeps steady rpms when used normally and speeds up when you apply heavy pressure. Great. Soft start, also great. I've used it sparingly to actually compund and buff and it's fine for the weekend warrior, but you're going to have to get a Dewalt or Makita if you want a consistent job and a smooth machine. Weight helps with compounding in my opinion and this tool just doesn't cut it for that. Definitely can't one hand it like the heavier high speed rotarys. Also, the pressure speed sensing is a little too touchy for paint correction. That being said, I was able to successfully wet sand and buff a roof, hood and decklid in around 45 minutes start to finish, but it's not something I wanna do with this machine every day.

It works OK, but because it has a digital speed circuit it slows down when some when you pull it from the work, and stalls easily when you hit something that is on a 90 degree plane to the buffing surface. Would have prefered a side handle vs. the top wrap around handle which prevents you from getting into tight spaces like boats when on a trailer, going to have to figure a way to mount a handle just on one side.

I needed a buffer to take some oxidation off of my boat. After purchasing this item and using it, I found that the speed adjustment controls are in a poor position on the tool. They are right in the way where your hand grips the tool and as a result you often push the button to change speeds inadvertently. The RPMs also seem to drop drastically once the tool touches the area to be worked. I have other tools of this brand and found them to be fairly priced and of good quality. This is the first encounter I’ve had with a dissatisfaction.

If you use a polisher for making a living you better spend about 4 times what this one cost. It does tend to heat up & cut in and out when buffing rubbing compound in large areas after about 10 min. However, I would but it again for as often as I use one. It did a great job.

I couldn’t believe how well constructed and powerful this buffer is. I waxed my 20’ boat in less than an hour. Great product!

August 2021. Ordered this polisher, used it to polish a concrete table, it broke after an hour of gentle regular use. I have a lot of experience with tools and know not to ever push a tool too hard, I didn't, this tool just would not turn on after using it for an hour. So I ordered a second and returned the first. When the second arrived, it too broke about an hour after unboxing it. When I say broke, I mean that it simply will not turn on any more. I was using a 50 grit diamond polishing pad to smooth a concrete table top, this type of work is well within this tools wheelhouse. After the second Wen Brand polisher broke, I went to Harbor Freight and bought a cheaper one and that one lasted for the entirety of my project, without fail, and it was cheaper. This Wen polisher is terrible, the digital readout is pointless, a dial (like the one on my harbor freight tool) is superior, and the buttons where the digital readout are located are terribly positioned so that when you're polishing for a while your finger will naturally want to rest where the plus and minus buttons for the polisher are. Do not buy this polisher.

Terrible. Used it for a week. Stopped working. Will be returning it.

It took a bit of learning how to hold it so it doesn't want to run away on you. But on the lowest speed it did a good job of getting rid of the oxidization on my 5th wheel
