A story that takes place in Africa!
I love that this book takes place in a small village in Uganda. as a teacher, i search for diverse children's books and this one is perfect. I love the way the kids join in with the rhyming. The book really kept their attention as they waited to see which animal the mzee (wise man) would encounter next! Can't wait to read Cathy Kreutter's other books. Raising global citizens is so important!!!!

International Must Have
I Know An Old Mzee.... is a delightful African spin on a familiar song/poem. The illustrations make everyone laugh; they highlight life in the Ugandan bush.Mzee (Kiswahili for older man and pronounced Mmm-zay) integrates poetry with vibrant, fanciful illustrations, laced together with computer graphics. The book is informative and inviting. It's a delight for adults who laugh out loud and children who squeal with the turning of each page. I Know An Old Mzee adds a sparkling dimension to international literature.I look forward to a series of re-told poems from Ms. Kreutter as steeped in the African tradition as red bush tea. I recommend this book to anyone old enough to read or be read to.Dannie RussellAuthor, Home Is Where My Earrings Are[...]Florida, USA

Fun, Educational Book for young Children
Cathy Kreutter has put together a clever, fun, and educational book for children. She has included many pictures of animals in Africa (she lives in Uganda), maps of Uganda and Africa, definitions of terms used in the book, and colorful art. This book is in our church library and the children love to check it out for a good read.

Eh eh banange
My kids love this book! It’s common to hear them saying “Is it really true? Eh eh banange!” I grew up in Uganda so I am very happy to have a book that can teach my kids about this wonderful place in a fun way.

My children loved the humour, I loved the rhythm!
When I brought this book (and the others by the same author) home my children stopped and sat down at the door to look through every page! I really enjoyed reading this book out loud, it has great rhythm! And my favourite part was hearing my children chuckle and exclaim throughout. In the two days it's been part of our library we've already read it several times! The book is both funny and informative. We live in Uganda and children's books are non-existent or rare here so this one is a treasure! Ugandan with International excellence. I recommend it (and the others in this series).

A "Must-Have" in any classroom
"I Know an Old Mzee" is a beautifully rewritten story in the style of "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" except this story is told Ugandan Style, the hope being that you will have learned about the people, the animals and the Nile River. The delightful illustrations by a Ugandan artist, along with the rhythm as you read, make this book is a must-have in any classroom, anywhere! The "Mzee" (wise man) is featured on each page as his collection of animals and other creatures grow! Thank you Cathy Kreutter. Your readers are the beneficiaries of your 25-plus years as a Librarian in Kampala.

Our family just loves this book!
I am lucky to have received a signed copy of this book when it was first released from the author and my boys just love it! It's one of our favorite family books to read. I've since purchased a few additional copies for our teachers and our library. I highly recommend purchasing this book - the writing is funny (kids love it!) and the illustrations are just beautiful.

I was delighted with every page turn
As a librarian at a school in East Africa, I was delighted with every page turn. The author livened up the old song with local references and humour. Any one who is living in Africa, or wanting to imagine living in Africa will enjoy this read.To add: I met the author recently, and was given this book to review
