The best book on salary topic
This is the best book about salary negotiation. I studied and practised it very heavily. I would highly recommend this book to everybody who wants to have higher salary and raise.I also can recommend this book. It's pretty interesting view on the salary. Knowing Your Value: Women, Money and Getting What You're Worth Here is one more excellent book: Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In Here is my personal experience about salary negotiation. I got a job offer from USA company at 2011. I didn't negotiate an offer and that was a terrible mistake. Although I was outstanding employee company gave me 20k less that my colleagues. I realized it and found mentioned books about salary negotiation. I spend a lot of time on understanding and practising negotiations. So when I decided to leave my work and accept another challenge I was fully prepared. I've done following research:1. Glassdoor and payscale websites. They are very valuable.2. Colleages. I had a few friends and they really helped to understand what maximum salary I can get.3. Some government websites: http://www.bls.gov and etc.I didn't try to find out the salary range from recruiter. Instead I focused on identifying "fair" salary. I prepared a IRS document and could articulate and explain the fair salary for my position. Recruiter was very impressed with my attitude and research. As result I was able to negotiate the maximum compensation. And yes I've never mentioned my previous salary.

Are you looking for a huge raise? Then go get this book
This is the single most powerful tool you can have in your pocket when trying to negotiate salary for a new job or to get a raise at your current job.I used the advice from this book and after preparing and practicing for negotiations, I successfully negotiated 80% higher salary at a new job than my current pay! Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.Prior to reading Salary tutor, I read various books on negotiating but did not feel prepared because most of these books gave generic advice which worked in hypothetical scenarios but as soon as I was in front of the HR rep, all that fluff advice was useless.Jim Hopkinson's Salary Tutor directly addresses the problems an average job candidate faces at every step when dealing with the HR reps who have years of experience in negotiating and gives direct, succinct advice that can be applied instantly. After the huge return on investment I received on this book, I also took Jim's course on Udemy website "Negotiating a raise or promotion" which I found to be incredibly useful. I really wish I would have taken that course before I accepted the offer. In any case, I will still use the material from his book and course for years to come. Thanks Jim for your huge contribution in changing my professional life!My advice to everyone looking to get a raise - Buy this book and the course, practice and internalize the material and then go get yourself a huge raise

Nothing that the internet has not taught you yet
I thought I would learn something new from this book but in this internet era, you will learn salary negotiation secrets at different websites for free. There is nothing wrong with this book. This is actually a good book but I wouldn't recommend buying it if you have the patience and time to read and search online.

Helped turn me from lost into at confident in salary negotiations
I've been stuck in that position before, when I'm surprised when asked "So how much were you looking to make". When I applied for a promotion within my own company, I knew I'd have that question asked again so luckily I ordered this. The biggest benefit for me during the negotiation was being prepared and knowing what was coming before it came. I negotiated and did not back off or cower down like I would have (and did before). Although it would have been more pay than my current position (again, promotion within the same company) their initial offer was 20% below market. I showed them the research I gathered and it made it really easy to counter, where I would not have had the courage to do that before. Because of that I didn't get full market value for this position. I think you lose a bit of bargaining power when being promoted, however this book did earn me 2% more salary than I was initially offered. Most importantly for me was afterwards I felt very proud that I actually stood up for myself. It also made the salary process enjoyable instead of dreadful.

!
Negotiation is not taught in school as Jim Hopkinson mentions in his book. It is also not often mentioned or passed on through your peers. I didn't even know it was an option until I had been working for a bit. Negotiating seemed like you were asking for too much and should be happy enough to just get the position. Maybe this is a gender difference. Slowly over the years I have improved and changed my perspective about negotiating. Recently I had an opportunity to make a job change and I wanted to make sure I was prepared. Jim's book is an excellent and plain spoken guide with fun personal anecdotes to prepare for salary negotiations. It provided the steps necessary to be as informed and prepared as possible and how to deal with the often premature but persistent "how much are you currently making" question. I also appreciated the salary and additional asks being seen separately. Negotiating salary is one part of the process and negotiating tuition reimbursement, vacation, flex schedule and conferences can be just as important but second part.I felt confident and prepared after reading the book. I was able to negotiate and receive 95% of what I wanted for the new position. I highly recommend the book. Thanks Jim!

A MUST read before an interview!
This is one career book I think everyone should check out - it's short, but very, very good. The author doesn't beat around the bush or promise readers the moon & the stars when it comes to salary negotiations, but does give solid advice for job seekers (especially for those looking in this current tough job market) & does so in a casual, down-to-Earth manner (it's not bland by any means like so many other 'advice-type' books out there). It's actually filled with REAL-world (often funny) experiences that are really effective in making the case for doing things a certain way.Overall, I'd say it's an easy 5/5 - The greatest thing I got out of it was confidence (Honestly, read this book before going to an interview & you'll instantly feel a lot more at ease, better able to deal with the questions & may even get a bump in income out of it!)
