This is solidly built, the handle is tight.
I like this opener. I do plan to varnish the handle. It may have sealer on it now but it feels like bare wood. The manufacturer probably designed it this way because the handle really provides a great grip. The handle does not detract from the opener in any way, I think it will look nice for a longer time with a coat of light varnish on the handle. I also ran it through my knife sharpener a few times so that it will cut envelopes and packing tape more easily. Again, personal preference. It works very well right out of the box. I expect this opener to last a long time. It is well worth the price.

Perfect opener
I needed a new letter opener and this one is perfect. The blade is not sharp so it will not cut your fingers. It is easy to hold and it cuts envelopes perfectly.

Works OK out of the box; works GREAT after blade improvement.
Good looking letter opener. The wood handle and the blade are both very attractive. It goes well with wooden desks or in the kitchen drawer. It is a slim little blade that works rather well.However, before your first use you might want to sharpen it. The blade is not as sharp as you think (not at first). A bit of arm force is needed to slice open letters. So, I used a #300 grit knife sharpening whetstone to improve the blade. Now the opener is rather sharp and easy to use.I could not give a 5-star because despite the good quality, aesthetics, and ease of use it required some additional work to get there. Out-of-the-box, the blade is a bit dull in my opinion--although it will open letters. So, a 4-star is a fair score.So, if you buy this, you should be able to enjoy it as a regular, solid, functional letter opener. However, if you want it to perform at 5-star level, you will need some sharpening tools to improve the blade a little.Thanks!

Works well
After misplacing our previous letter opener I ordered this one. I seriously doubt the wood is actual rosewood but for the money it certainly does the job, seems to be a good length, durable and easy to use.

Too sharp!
This is an effective letter opener but it is way too sharp. It looks like a weapon.
