Funny movie
An enjoyable movie on the whole, but some parts had to be explained to my children a little rough edged in places, but again another movie that you need to watch with your children

A clever, enjoyable and under-rated Disney classic
It was only a matter of time until Disney Studios put their own dinstinctive spin on that mythical God-like hero, Hercules. When I first saw it on VHS format, I instantly fell for it.This animated film follows in the same spirit of my own personal favorite, "Aladdin" (no wonder why I like it), which blends dazzling animation, a clever story filled with satirical puns & in-jokes, toe-tapping showtunes, and engaging characters voiced by talented people. But within all the jokes and gags is the essential message that our hero must learn: That true heroism comes not from wonderous feats, but from within your heart. We watch as Hercules (displaying God-like strength, but turned mortal, thanks to the under-handed doings of the slimy Hades) evolves from gawky, clumsy teenager into a true heroic figure under the tutelage of Philotetes ("call me Phil"). A diminutive Satyr (the most unlikely trainer of heroes!) with a short fuse, Phil is voiced appropriately by Danny DeVito. Tate Donovan voices the uncertain but ambitious Herk perfectly. His Godly father Zeus is given hearty, boisterous authority by veteran actor Rip Torn. Bobcat Goldthwait and Matt Frewer have fun voicing Hades' bumbling demonic minions, Pain & Panic. One of the big surprises among the characters is the leading lady, Meg. Disney, for a change, went against the "pretty-but-useless" damsel-in-distress by choosing a brassy, wisecracking heroine who pokes fun at damsels-in-distress. But the character who really steals the show is the hot-headed but jocular Hades, Lord of the Underworld, voiced with deliciously villainous glee by James Woods. As with most Disney fare, "Hercules" is for the whole family. But be warned: Some scenes, such as Herk's battle with a head-sprouting Hydra monster and the equally monstrous Titans, may be too intense for little tykes. However, there's so much to enjoy in this pun-filled take on the legendary hero that you'll most likely stayed glued to the set from start to finish.

It's Disney!
I like all Disney Animation movies. Yes, some are better then others, but they're still movies thatthe whole family can watch and enjoy. Some are better for older children then younger children. That is up to parents to decide. The older Disney movies are classics and should be in everyone'scollection along with the new.

Disney Fun
Disney revised the story of Hercules to make it family friendly and fun. If you are expecting an accurate portrayal of the myth you will not find it here. However, If you are looking for entertainment and fun, then this is the movie for you. Disney has made Hera Hercules mother and Zeus is a loving devoted family man. The bad guy here is Hades, king of the underworld, played to the hilt by James Woods. There are also the muse who are a girl singing group who sing everything very gospel, they also act as the Greek chorus. We also have the bad girl Meg, with the heart of gold, who falls in love with Hercules. In this version, Hades is told by the fates that Hercules will cause his demise , so Hades decides to make Hercules mortal with a potion. He gives this task to two of his trusted bad guys and things do not go as planned. After they kidnap the baby Hercules and give him the potion, Hercules becomes mortal but has retained his strength because he did not drink all of the potion. He is found by a childless couple and raised as their own. (Sounds a bit like Superman) Hercules grows up as a mortal but he does not fit in. His parents finally tell him how they found him and he goes to the temple of Zeus to pray and finds out that he is the son of the god. However, Hercules has to become a real hero before he can return to mount Olympus. Hercules goes for hero training with a satyr voiced by Danny DiVito and the real fun begins. Hades finds out that Hercules is still a threat to him and uses his trusting nature against him. However, good over comes evil and Hercules wins his immortality back in the end and his place with the gods. However, his love for Meg and his human parents keep him tied to earth.

A Godly Outcast
As a kid I was bullied constantly because i was a bracerswearing-buckteethed-bookworm.This film helped me cope with my being an outcast. I saw it on the cinema five times and I remember forsaking cable and just playing my VHS over and over again and singing all of its song and reciting the dialogue. I am now a bracer free twenty-five year old and to this day I still know all of the dialogue and songs. My boyfriend was shocked when he first saw me reciting the film from the very beginning with Charlton Heston to very end with the Muses singing A Star is Born. That day he said that he definitely wanted to marry me because I am not afraid to show my inner geek. And that's what the film is all about, not being afraid of being different. It teaches you to "not lose hope when you are forlorn/ just keep your eyes up in the skies."
