I Love these things!
These work great! I've caught plenty of perch and catfish on these. Best luck has been with a circle hook and earthworms. I was able to put a 10' PVC pole into the ground ( I think 1" Diameter) with these on the end to get them out further when away from the dock. I used a 1' length of 2" Diameter PVC, hammered into the ground to use as a holder for the 10' piece. Will upload pics. Do note that these will get weathered if you leave them outside constantly. The springs on mine are now stiff in spots, causing hiccups in the retrieval. They still work fine though. **EDIT 1/5/2015** After using for a couple of years, I've abandoned the long poles extended over the water... the easiest/most effective ways I've used these is to: 1. Take a 2 ft length of 1" PVC pipe and drill holes through one end 2. Hammer straight into the ground about 8" to 12", with only a slight lean towards the water 3. Tie the auto reel to the PBC pipe using some strong nylon 4. Bait the hook 5. Pull all the line out (as far as you can go) and set the switch, then lightly toss the bait out (try to land bait so line does not have much slack). Caution on this step.. if you toss too hard, you'll trigger the switch and a hook will come flying at you with some nasty dough bait! This gets the bait 4-5 feet out into the water, which has been plenty enough for the catfish in my pond.

Must Have
This is a really great invention. This seller did a great job of reviewing and explaining it, even adding extra tips on use. Seller notes that he sells only the flat trigger and you can tell him if you want flat trigger or the other trigger, but the ones I received are NOT flat trigger. I don't know that it will affect use at all and I DOUBT I will notice any difference between the two. I was, however, expecting flat trigger. That should be more obvious in the ordering process (which trigger you'll get or how to choose). Overall, outstanding.

Order was a little short
I ordered and paid for one dozen yo yo mechanical fishing reels, not ten (10), and as u can see by the picture that is not what I received. The package was completely sealed and it did not appear that it had been tampered with.

Great backup
These are great "just in case" items. I personally would prefer if the cordage it came with was a little higher quality, but I suppose it could easily be replaced. Great piece of mind for the price. I have yet to take them out an put them to use to see how well they do, but once I do I will update this review with my findings.

Flat trigger not wire trigger
I ordered these expecting the wire trigger but it’s the flat trigger. There’s no option to choose one or the other on the listing but the ones with a wire trigger are displayed. Other than that they arrived quickly and look to be in decent shape.

Great to have, great to give!
When it comes to the kids packs, I cut weight where I can- these and a few other choice items, are great to help my boys feel part of the group, like the are helping, needed & important. They are easy enough to use that they, 9 & 5, can bait, set & retrieve without help but from eachother. They also have poles & kits, but adding these was just unpassable- with the 2 each they set, & what the boys caught fishing, they gought dinner while I made camp & got the coals set! Also gave 2 away, awesome response, so, if you have 'the fisherman' in your family, I really recommend these for Christmas gifts, they'll love them- just be sure they are legal where they/you live.

Retracts too easily
I tried several of these out and almost every one of them had retracted. Maybe I need to put weights on them or something.
