A Shiksa's Review
You don't have to be Jewish to love Elissa Altman, a great storyteller, as she shares what is was like being brought up in the 60s by a quasi devout Dad who loved good food and taught her to, turning Elissa into a first class food writer, and a vain mom who never ate a thing. The book itself came in pristine condition. Will order from here again.

Nothing special
Started off so creative and the writing is beautifully descriptive, but after about half-way it's painful to finish. Too many details and not holding my attention, even when I adore the subject.

it would have felt like personal history
I ordered this book because I found a familial link to the author. The stories were so similar to my own experiences that even without the link, it would have felt like personal history. It is well written. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the topic of the American Jewish experience.

A beautiful story
Elissa Altman has written a heartfelt memoir which touched me as no book has for a long long time. I recommend it to anyone searching for meaning in their life.

Very different from Poor Man's Feast
Sad and moving, but for me this book doesn't have the vibrancy and power of the first book I read.
