Replacement Keyboard for Dell XPS 15 9550 9560 9570, Precision 5510 5520 5530 5540 & inspiron 15 7558 7568 Laptop, Dell Precision 5510 Keyboard with Backlit US Layout P/N: 0VC22N 0GDT9F

Replacing this keyboard is a MASSIVE undertaking, but that's just due to the design of the laptop, not this keyboard. I was unaware that the only difference between backlit keyboards and standard keyboards was that the backlit keyboards come with an adhesive film with a flat LED array on them. Alignment is pretty tough, but it looks great, if not brighter than factory. Just a heads up that there are about 50 screws in total when it comes to replacing this keyboard. The SSD, wireless card, and motherboard all need to come out before you can replace the keyboard. That being said, the new keyboard feels great! If we have any longevity issues with this I will update this review.

You won't believe how many screws hold the original keyboard in place. There's 32 screws, just for that little keyboard!!! It's way more screws then what had to be removed to get all the other components out of the way to get to this little beast. To perform this replacement you will need a Torx T5 for the back panel of the laptop and a small Philips screwdriver for the rest. The new keyboard is great. The keys feel good, and backlighting works (see the image provided). No instructions came in my package, unlike what another reviewer stated, but I was able to search for what I needed. The only real issue was that the keyboard did not come with something to cover the screws where the motherboard would rest (see the other image provided). This could cause a short if a screw comes in contact with a motherboard component. There's no way you can remove the backing on the old keyboard, so I added some non-conductive tape to the areas of concern which worked out great. Be ready to be surprised by how much crud collected in the old keyboard. I believe my wife was getting ready for hibernation by storing food under the keys for the winter. I was going to provide a picture, but in the end I was too embarrassed to show it. Now that I have the new keyboard in place, I plan to rehabilitate the old keyboard so that I have a spare for when my wife eventually ends up storing all her food in the new one.

Im not a computer noob and have spent my life tinkering on them, but opening up a laptop for open heart surgery was not my top skill. I watched a YouTube video on how to do this step by step however and carefully and slowly followed the instructions. I had several stuck and bad keys on my Dell laptop which made it unusable. Im now typing on that same laptop with the new keyboard. It's a totally doable DIY but you need the proper screwdrivers and bit sets. I spent the money on a laptop repair kid and that helped quite a bit to ensure I got things right. Still far cheaper than a new laptop. As for the new keyboard, it feels just like the original and the backlight works fine. I reserve the right to change my star rating in the future if the keyboard doesnt hold up

Two keys need to pressed a bit harder than normal, which makes me miss those letters when typing. A bit annoying but I've adjusted my typing accordingly

Found a video online of how to replace the keyboard on my exact laptop (Dell XPS 15 9550). Installation was very easy though it was a bit stressful being my first time doing major surgery on a laptop. Works well. Much less expensive than the original manufacturer's part.

On the plus side, the keyboard works. But barely, in my opinion. Two of the arrow keys on my original keyboard had stopped working, and after attempting to replace just the keys without that fixing the problem, I decided to replace the whole keyboard. The process itself was time consuming and a bit nerve wracking, but doable with some help from YouTube. Cons: While the keyboard functions and all keys do work, it is just not working well. All of the keys have a more "clunky action" than on the original keyboard, although that I could probably get used to. However, the right shift key is so stiff that I need to press it with incredible force, and more often than not my capital letters end up being lowercase. Similarly there is something wrong with the left Alt key, so that when I use Alt-tab to switch through windows (which I do a lot), the alt key releases randomly interrupting the sequence. Overall I think this is actually worse than the original keyboard with two broken keys, and I don't think I can live with it or get used to it. I guess I will try to see if I can track down an actual OEM keyboard somewhere and go through the whole replacement process again. Disappointed.

Very happy with my purchase. If it wasn't for different stickers on the back I could have put the wrong one back in. If you're going to do something stupid like order the cheapest possible replacement parts, this is definitely a good time to be boneheaded. Go for it dummy!

That backlight is non existent. Adjustment allows for two brightness levels by dell but you can’t really real any difference because backlight is such a low quality. I am regretting 2 hours that I spent to dissemble and reassemble for keyboard replacement. Wish I had known that issue before. Rest it functions as expected.

after installing the new keyboard and used it for about a week i can confirm it works and everything is fine

I installed this keyboard in August 2024 and within the first week there were problems, with the down arrow, space bar, C key and some more having problems with not rebounding. Now the spacebar and down arrow are all permanently depressed not rebounding at all (space bar in parts). The C key and others are intermittently problematic. I've disabled the laptop a second time to remove the keyboard, confirm the problem is with the keyboard and not my installation of it. Very disappointing and completely useless. I will try finding an alternative otherwise it's new laptop time.
