Dancers After Dark

Beautifully crafted, great photography!!

Jordan Matter is insane. He is also brilliant, and he knows an awful lot of talented, beautiful, equally insane dancers. And he convinced them to go out into the streets of major cities with him, after dark, and strike stunning poses with no clothes on. They only had one near encounter with police, Matter said, and it ended well. I love this book so much. This is a photography book where it looks like EVERYBODY had fun. These images are amazing. People hanging from lampposts, playing in civic fountains, creating multi-person artistic formations under street lights, and all of it conveying the sheer joys of expressing yourself and getting away with it. You should also check out his site and his YouTube channel for behind-the-scenes videos of some of the shoots.

This is so much more than just a book of pretty pictures. Jordan Matter's photos come alive as you gaze at them; the sheer power of their beauty is mesmerizing. It is difficult to tear oneself away from one, only to be equally transported by the next. The imagination of the photographer, combined with the extraordinary physical qualities of his subjects and their environments, create an equation that is at once stunning and thought-provoking. I have just received this book, and have already spent much time reflecting on it: reviewing the compositions, the nature of the light, and the stark and splendid results that Jordan has captured. This book would be an amazing gift for anyone who dances, travels, appreciates beauty, moves, or even just breathes.

This is an amazing experience inside of a binder. I'm amazed not only by the skill of the dancers, but the composition as well as the lighting. I'm not a coffee book table kind of person, but if I were, this would be on top. After browsing through a few pages in a local book shop, I couldn't get it out of my mind. I later purchased the book to show my children (7 and 11) to show them how beautiful the human body can be in a tasteful and artistic way. They are getting to that age where it could go either way, and I took this opportunity to help them look at the human body in a positive light. Jordan Matter's Dancers After Dark worked perfectly. It went from giggles and silly comments to appreciation for the dancer's skills and the feelings generated by the composition. I love it!

First off, I have nothing against erotic work but I do not believe this to be an erotic work. The bare body, especially that of a dancer's physique in a striking and disciplined pose, against the Ambiance and the Darkness of the city with all of its right angles and unnatural light sources, there's this emotional contrast that is created that I could go at length describing but I would encourage people to Simply buy the work, and take the same time that you would take to watch a movie to slowly flip through all of the pages, many of the photographs if you're like me you'll skip right past, nothing really original there. But at least 20 of those shots had me stopping and contemplating and thinking and feeling something that I wouldn't have felt from any other work. I highly recommend it.

Really sublime photos in a beautiful book. Everyone I show this to wants a copy, so I've bought several more as gifts! Good quality paper and printing, feels like something I can keep forever. The dancers become almost like human sculptures in these photos - a mix of B&W and color shots from all over the world, in a variety of striking (and sometimes very surprising) locations. It's amazing that they pulled this off - there's some behind the scenes stories in the back, too, that are fun.

Great book. Wonderful photos. Creative photographer and dancers. Amazing poses to 'expose' us to the art of dancing, dancing positions, diversity of dancers, diversity of scenes / places, ... Put out a second and third book for 'Dancers during the Day' or 'Dancers at Day Break', ... Love to see non-city alternative settings for a future book in other countries that USA and Western-Europe. NZ, Australia, Indonesia, Africa, Russia, Japan, ... Nice to see explanations of how the dancers were staged, prepared, lit, focus, cropped, ... My favorite is the woman dancer in CA coast at sunset - beautiful setting (beach / rocks / water), sunset colors, dancer pose and poise, ...

Ordered the book in the kindle edition. Nice images but all the print has run together and the digital info messes with the images. Not really usable in the kindle. I tried to write to get help but no one to write

This is the second book I've bought from Jordan Matter and I'm blown away! The photos are AMAZING, the quality of the pictures and composition, typically Jordan Matter, the quotes, right on point. The hard bound, boxed set, top notch. After I bought it, immediately bought one as a gift and had it sent to a dancer friend in Scotland who absolutely flipped out with joy when she received it. Thank you Jordan for sharing your craft with the world!

ネットでこの写真家の方のページを見つけ、写真も美しいし、いくつかの撮影の裏話のビデオやインタビュー動画や記事も面白かったので、この写真集を買ってみました。 ネット上のページに載っていたのとは別の裏話が、写真集の後ろのほうにたくさん書かれていて（英語ですが）、それも、すごく面白かったです。 ダンサーの方たちは、Facebookで募集に応じてくれた、ボランティアの方たちなんですね。 そして、撮影は、いずれも、ゲリラ的に敢行されたとのこと。逮捕は一件もなかったそうですが、日本なら、ほぼ必ず逮捕されるだろうな、と思いました。 でも、何より魅了されたのは、被写体となったダンサーの方々の筋肉美です。 このごろ、ジムで鍛えている私は、筋肉に興味津々なので、この写真集を、うっとりと眺めています。

J'ai acheté ce livre un peu par hasard après en avoir entendu parler sur Twitter. Et je ne suis absolument pas déçu ! Les photos et les mises en scène dans un cadre urbain sont magnifiques, la nudité des danseurs n'est jamais ni gênante ni "artificielle", les corps s’intègrent parfaitement dans la ville. J'imagine que derrière l'apparente facilité et la spontanéité des clichés il y a eu beaucoup de travail...
