Yes it is waxed polyester. It is fairly easy to split the threads. I use it to make pine needle baskets and it is very durable.

Yes, makes very nice dream catchers, I usually do not split it though.

Q: When burned does it wax?

The thread is waxed and I use it to make pine needle baskets and I don't melt or burn the ends or any other part of the thread. Since the thread is poly thread it should just melt if heated.
