Mine is not outside, it’s in garage. But it works on batteries so it would work outside in sunlight, it just may not “show up” to see the lighted word as well as it shows in darker situation.

I don't know the kind of batteries this uses. Mine stopped working soon after I bought it. I would not recommend the purchase of this product. Cheap product.
