La Bella 760FL Deep Talkin' Bass Flatwound Bass Guitar Strings - .043-.104 Light, Short Scale

So I broke a bass string while working on my bass and needed a replacement set of flatwounds.My previous set of D'Addarios were fine, but I wanted to try something new.LaBellas had great reviews and were in the correct gauge and scale length for my bass, so I ordered a set.Once they came in and I installed/tuned them, I was thoroughly impressed! The finish on the strings is like a fine polish and it's crazy how smooth they are, very easy on my fingertips. The black string ends look really cool against my bass' headstock as well!Honestly I'm not much of a player, so my opinion on tone may not be worth much, but I thought they sounded quite nice, and my bass player friend is going to give my bass a try soon. I'll try and report back what he says!

After buying a Fender Mustang bass I needed to find flatwound strings for it. The only strings compatible were the ones LaBella makes specifically for Mustangs with string-through bodies. I had previously thought all flatwound strings were the same; I couldn't have been more wrong.It's obvious the second you open the pack of strings; they're far more polished and smooth that the other brands I've used (Diaddario and Fender), but that's not where the differences end. The smoothness of the strings, besides being easier on the fretting fingers for sliding, create a MUCH darker tone out of the box. One of my gripes with new bass strings is that they're usually way too bright and punchy, but these strings sound like BASS strings from the moment you first tune up.I just switched the strings on my travel bass - a mini Squier P-Bass - and they sound so much better than the flatwound Fender strings I previously had on it. I don't usually write reviews for anything, but I've never been so blown away by the quality of a product compared to the competition.

These strings showed up as described, so now I have chunky flatwound strings on my short scale bass, which can be hard to find (especially in-person). I preferred the slightly thicker 1954 originals (i.e the "James Jamersons") by La Bella for the extra tension, but since those seem to be discontinued for short scales, these ones do the job just fine and deliver the smooth, thump-heavy tone that I like, with a noticeable increase in volume over the medium-sized roundwounds I was using before.This set has no coating, but just like any other flatwound string these are very smooth and won't wear through your fingertips or (in the case of a fretless bass) your fretboard as quickly, nor will they generate string noise while sliding. While they won't abrade you, be aware that flatwounds in general will require extra strength both to fret and to pluck than roundwounds, especially in this gauge if you're switching over for the first time, and slaps/pops will certainly be more of a workout. You may want to opt for coated or lighter-gauge strings if you're not a fan of the higher tension.The price of these La Bella strings has gone up in recent years; flatwounds always tend to be a more expensive and specialized option anyway (and even more so in short scale), but these strings will last for years at the minimum as long as you aren't going out of your way to break them, or chasing after a brightness that these aren't really meant for. La Bellas are also silk wrapped on the post ends/taper and colored coded on the ball ends, which gives them a bit of a classier look to fit the price tag.If you're willing to shell out for these strings, take extra care not to damage them during installation while you're at it; pinch them by the silk wrapping above the nut while winding by hand or keying them onto the posts to keep tension off of the played/resonating portion of the string until most of the slack is taken up, so that the core doesn't kink at the bridge and then twist during winding resulting in a "dead" tone with low sustain. I once ruined the E string in a set of Original 54s that way by handling them like ordinary electric guitar strings.

Great strings. Vintagey thump.I took one star off because the packaging of these strings by the manufacturer is lousy. Not Amazon packaging but La Bella packaging. For the price La bella wants for these strings you would hope they would be packaged more securely. They seem to be just rolled loosely and put in between the printed La Bella paper label. And then in sealed plastic. My E string had a soft 1" bend on it but thankfully it straightened out with tension. Poor and inadequate manufacturer packaging for pricey strings.

Bought these in order to play some 50's/60's tracks and some country music...impressed so far. Yes, you lose some of the brightness of round wounds, but you gain warmth and subtle thump if played in the right manner :-)

The E string broke at the top as soon as I tried to wind it on. Unfortunately I had not tried to install the strings within the return window period. However, where it is defective, I think it should be returned by Amazon. I do not blame the third party seller as they are bound by Amazon's policies. When my Prime membership expires, I will be cancelling Amazon for good.

I've had a Precision for years, but bought a Mustang PJ as my old hands and shoulders were beginning to complain; I tried various (flatwound) strings on it but never quite got there until I bought these.....tone is great, and the E is now tuneful, which wasn't the case previously. Overall, it finally sounds pretty much like the P, but is easier to play. Excellent!!
