This is my second one of these sharpeners, and I can honestly say they work wonders. It really gets the blade incredibly sharp in just a few passes. I was so impressed with the first one I owned that I had to get another for a different spot in the kitchen. If you're looking for a simple and effective way to keep your knives in top shape, this is definitely the way to go. Highly recommended for anyone who hates a dull blade.

Don't waste your money on this doesn't work right my knife was sharper before using this thing. All it did was dull my blade

Nothing is better for sharpening a knife than a good whetstone. This is great for a quick touchup of the edge when you are on the go and don't have time to break out the stones. A few quick passes through the medium then the fine sides and you have a razor-sharp edge on your knife. I use one in the kitchen and one in my backpack for use in the woods.

Bought this to sharpen pocket knives but it managed a workable edge on a carving knife too. Feels pretty solid and well constructed. I'm a novice and didn't want a carbide sharpener as I'm told they can tear up your blade edge. More than happy with this for the price. Don't expect your blades to part diamonds but admirable results with little time and effort.Everything I've run through it has come out paper slicing sharp with push cuts and this is plenty sharp enough for my needs.

Ich besitze schon einen ähnlichen "portablen Schärfer" jedoch herkömmlich- eine Seite Wolframkarbid und die andere Seite eben Keramikelemente. Was der herkömmliche Schärfer mit den Keramikelementen machte, tut hier der Gatco mit der Medium Seite. Nimmt man dann die feine Seite, erhält man ein ultrascharfes Messer. Ich muß erwähnen, das man etwas Übung und unbedingt Schleiföl dazu benötigt. Achtung: das Schleiföl wird gerne vergessen, deswegen setzen sich auch die ultrafeinen Poren der Keramikelemente zu und der gewünschte Erfolg bleibt aus. Fazit : ein sehr gutes portables Gerät für schmales Geld.

Works well to touch up a knife and keep it sharp.

I use this all the time, especially on knives with softer blades that require regular touch ups. I've recommended this to friends and bought a couple as presents. On my Opinel knives, it sharpens them like a razor. On knives with harder blades, it will maintain a blade, but you may need something other than this to get the initial sharpness. Obviously, due to its size, it fits easily in toolbags, fishing bags, pockets etc. Highly recommended IMO.
