Q: Are these suitable for mountain biking?

Not really. They are light with good support. But not sturdy enough for mountain biking. I'm sure there will be better shoes to buy.

Q: Do they come with black laces?

Mine were supplied with one pair of white laces, you may have to buy black ones separately.

Q: Could these be used in the gym? (Just a very average mix of cardio and strength training)

They're more casual. You'd be better with the correct gym shoes/trainers..
