Modification required! But these will work.
There is no other option available for this vehicle in for tail light pigtail connectors. You are going to have get this and modify it. Very easy. See picture of where you have to cut a slot out with a Dremel. The tail light has a prong inside that aligns it however is in the way. See pics. These connectors have an extremely tight fit as did the factory ones. Mine were seized together wirh rust Sue to faulty tail light seal. Pay close attention to the tail light electrical male prongs. They are not always perfectly straight. Do not force it. Wiggle it in with a little bit of pressure. Use lots of lube. Dielectric grease or silicone grease. I used a pocket scree driver to carefully open the new pigtail opening as they were very small.

Works for my Mini
I have a 2011 Mini Countryman S R60 (should also work for the R56 and others) and if you're here you probably found out they don't sell this connector anymore and want to sell a multi-hundred dollar harness for the left side of the car blah blah. Anyways, this works, but you might need to use a serrated blade to widen the outside prongs a little bit. That's what I did and it worked.

No good
Does not fit the prongs in the light fixture at all. I have a 2002 BMW 5i.

Had to be modified as others had suggested. Middle clip on top of the connector had to be cut off with a pair of scissors in order for it to fit. Took about 10 seconds to get off real quick. Once that was removed everything lined up and installed perfectly. Nice and snug even with clip removed. Lights working like new again. Definitely would’ve been 5 stars if it came out the box ready to install without modifications.
