I fit and keep three in my case daily. You could probably get 2 more in the slot.

does this case protect well?

I have this case currently going on 3 years for my iPhone 8 Plus, and previously for 2-3 years for my iPhone 6. Has been dropped numerous times over those years onto hardwood doors, concrete driveways — no problems. Both phones while in this case have had 1 year olds carry them and drop them, purposefully and accidentally, with no issues. I would not own any other wallet case! It used to be called SILK, and I was bummed It was no longer available on Amazon until I learned of name switch.
