Not for everyone
The optics are very good. Do not get these unless you have significant visual challenges. If you are unable to read small script ( like movie info on Netflix. Apple etc, box scores on baseball games) these clip ons will let you see the small print, but is a very different visual experience. No peripheral vision, with a big screen TV you will have to move your head to see different parts of the picture, but faces will be clearer and the small print will be legible.

wonderful for elderly relative
These really help a relative to see TV even with severe macular degeneration. Thus they are wonderful and definitely worth buying more than one pair. I wish the lenses scratched less easily, the little plastic feet were more secure, and the spring did not occasionally come apart. Each if these issues can be fixed at home (likely not by the person with vision problems). Adjusting the height of these clip-ons and fixing the spring require a small Philips screw driver which we had. We glued the plastic feet on. These keep the clips from sliding and not scratching the lenses of the regular glasses. We got the first two pair from the optometrist. One had a problem and the manufacturer made improvements and sent a second. This one bought on Amazon is the third. It has the improved clip design! We bought them in case something happened to the ones being used. Once someone uses them, life without them is awful. The metal pieces seem to be rugged and do not seem to rust from glass cleaning with water and mild soap. This product is made in Germany and are the only things we found that provide good TV viewing. Other products might provide easier adjustments, but their lenses and design just don't work well. These clips are easy for visually impaired person (unless very old) to clip on to distance/bifocal/progressive glasses, especially once the hieght is adjusted for that pair of glasses. Don't let your friend or relative live without these - they are great!

Very helpful product for a low vision person
What’s good: I bought this product to use in watching TV. It definitely helps greatly not only in reading closed caption text and text in commercials but also helps in seeing detail in the picture and providing greater detail in facial expressions. The product is fairly easy to use, even fitting my exceptionally thick lenses. So far, the flip-up feature has worked well. This feature m gets the maxTV Clip out of the way so you can get up and move around the house without totally removing them. What’s not so great: Adjusting the vertical position of the lenses is no easy task; but it was very necessary for me. I had to move them from the highest position to the lowest. I found that using a “third hand” (weighted base with padded alligator clips) helped a lot. I believe the design of the the vertical positioning could be improved. The fixed focus at about 3 meters (9.5 - 10 ft) is a definite trade off. It could be a bit problematic in many homes to get to the right viewing distance. There is a little bit of leeway in that distance but not much. If you are 12 or 18 inches too close or too far away, the picture is no longer in sharp focus. It would be really great to have at least minimal adjustable focus from, say, 8 ft to 12 ft. But I’m not at all sure that is feasible in a product that is also trying to be inexpensive. (You can get it in a device that can cost up to several thousand dollars. M) The weight of this product may be too much for someone who has light glasses. With my thick lenses and big frames it was noticeable but not too onerous. I am concerned that the plastic which supports the maxTV when mounted on your glasses and which provides the flip-up feature is not durable enough to last for too long. At $125 price point I hope the plastic will hold up for at least a couple of years. But I am not overly confident that it will last that long. I have never been known for my gentle touch, perhaps due to my low vision and it’s attendant problem with depth perception. Summary: It’s a good product that fills a definite need. I’m enjoying my maxTV Clip and hope it works for you as well. But I also hope they continue to improve the product, even if they have to increase the price some to accommodate new features.
