Re-release of the classic Klaus Schulze-album Moondawn, original released in 1976. The album is a dynamic and sometimes explosive expression of the synthesized sound so recognizable as Klaus Schulze. (Trouser Press/USA, November 1977). Without doubt Moondawn is one of Klaus Schulze's cultic albums. Klaus was working with a Big Moog for the very first time, which results into a special fat sound. On Moondawn Klaus Schulze was accompanied by Harald Grosskopf on drums. Klaus Schulze first attracted attention as a member of the German pioneers of electronic music, Tangerine Dream. Following the release of their debut LP, Electronic Meditation he departed for a solo career. Klaus' recorded work typically features extended pieces sometimes filling an entire album built around computer-generated synthesizers and other specially programmed electronic effects. Klaus Schulze remains a cult figure in the whole World. He is widely considered an avant-garde mainstay as well as a founding father of both the new-age space music and electronica genres.

One of his finest albums
This 1976 album is excellent and is somewhat similar in texture to Timewind (1975). The most noticeable difference however, is that drummer Harald Grosskopf (Wallenstein, Cosmic Jokers) plays a full drum kit on Moondawn, and with great results. In general, the two tracks are very moody and long (27'13 and 25'35 respectively) and consist simply of long drones on the moog synthesizer and string synthesizer (or the Hammond organ as used on Mindphaser) and sequenced synthesizer lines on the "big" moog. This music is largely static, with loads of bubbling and fizzing synthesizer sounds and only subtle changes in key and tempo. I should note that Harald's drumming is excellent and really breaks things up a bit - in fact, Klaus seems to loosen up a bit during the passages that include drumming and solos on the moog. The best example of this is on Mindphaser. This remastered version is absolutely superb and features incredible sound quality, restored artwork, a ton of pictures of Klaus playing his banks of synthesizers, and detailed liner notes. The real treat however, is the addition of the excellent bonus track Floating Sequence (21'11"), which was taken from the Moondawn recording session. This version of Floating Sequence is a stereo mix that is completely different from the version included on the 1995 release of Moondawn. This album is very highly recommended to all electronica fans along with Timewind (1975), Body Love (1977), Mirage (1977), and X (1978).

A desert island disc
One of my top 3 Schulze albums. (The other 2 being Timewind and Mirage). This is one of his most dynamic sounding works partially due to the excellent drumming of Harold Grosskopf. Like most Schulze albums this is best listened to using headphones. Very highly recommended and an excellent starting point for someone just getting into Klaus.

Opus Master
Simply, this is K. S.'s best album ever from beginning to end. A must for electronic progressive rock collectors.

Great album for your collection
Great album, I am a fan of Klaus Schulze for a long time, ethereal and dreamy, thought provokingand great meditation music. This music sends one deep into the recesses of one's mind and is great when played late at night.

Klaus Schulze Moondawn
This is the quintessential musical experience. There is no other of this caliber of listening experience. It is phenomenal. The music takes me to a different dimension, creating a connection between my soul and the divine.

The very beginnings of new age music
I first heard this when it came out - I was 15 years old. I'd never heard anything like it, and it has now spawned a whole genre of music. It's really more for history, than for listening. I love when it comes on with the random music setting and I'm busy doing other things. It's a little slow for direct listening (unless you're heavily sedated...)

Copy supplied was a CDR !
Avoid this listing like the plague - this is a CDR from some funny little UK label, possibly even a bootleg? NOT the revisited records CD reissue .

I also feel cheated! - CDTB 093 on the 'Thunderbolt' label
The music is fantastic - this particular release is appalling. If you are considering buying this album (which I suggest you do!) then you should consider the other releases before this one. I cannot comment on how the other cd releases sound compared to this one, however if like me, you care for music to presented as the art it is then you should avoid this version.Simply put this is the worst album release I've ever come across; the CD is a CDR (blueish green colour), the printed text is blurred, the disc itself is bumpy on the top surface and makes me wonder how many years it will last before it degrades. The jewel case box is rough and has sharp edges, the back cover doesn't even try to replicate the original version and instead looks like it was printed poorly using Microsoft word in simple black text. The insert has almost no details of the tracks and certainly no booklet - just a thin card slip of the same quality of the back cover. You're probably thinking I was just unlucky and got a fake? - well no, it happened to at least one more unlucky buyer on this page and a bit of quick research proved that it was indeed an actual release by a rather rubbish company specialising in re-releases.EDIT: I'd just like to clarify, the version I bought was catalogue number CDTB 093 on the 'Thunderbolt' label. This label seems to be owned by 'Magnum' who have also released at least one other version under it's own name in America as 'Magnum America'. The only reason I've added this comment is because Amazon has a habit of mixing up reviews for various editions of the same product. These editions can vary massively in quality and I honestly wish that no-one makes the same mistake in buying this same product as I did.
