The Silversmith: 2 (David Wolf Mystery Thriller Series)

Wow! Another great book from Jeff. Directly following on from "Foreign Deceit", could we expect to get writing up to the same level from a new author? The second book in the series meets up to expectations in my opinion. I'm not going to spoil the plot. Nice crafting of descriptive language together with suspense and grit. Just when you think you know the answer to the mystery and what the end is going to be... you get another curved ball delivery! Great writing. Hope there will be many more adventures to look forward to.

I have now read 7 of the Wolf books, but sadly not in the right order! I have enjoyed them all and whilst they could all be read as stand-alone, you really do get more out of the stories if you read them in the order they were written. So I am glad that with this book (2) I am right up to date, so far. I really like the character of David Wolf - honest and fair, but admitting to his faults. He is horrified not to be elected Sheriff - his burning ambition - and he and the new Sheriff hate eat other's guts. But soon Wolf has more to worry about and has to go on the run in the mountains, while at the same time trying to figure out who wants him dead and why. I enjoyed the book and would recommend the whole series. There was no sex, romance or foul language.

This was one heck of a story. From the very start, I was glued to this story. I had to keep reading, every spare moment I had, I would pick up my kindle. I couldn't put it down, had to keep reading, just kept me enthralled right to the very end. I enjoy reading stories about this type of story line, that takes you through a narrative with the same characters. I didn't get a chance to leave a review on the first two books about David Wolf, they both deserve 5Stars, as well.

This book carried straight on from the first, literally a day later. Man this fella has had a bad week! I really enjoyed the second book. You do have to read the first though to know what's going on. Would definitely recommend reading this and I will happily wait for the next in the series

The beginning of this book seemed to give hope that it would be a very good read, however it quickly became apparent that despite the action, the plot was very amateurish - following a million TV programmes and books since the 1950s in which the greedy corrupt rich landowner does the dirty deed and spends the rest of the story trying to get rid of witnesses; meanwhile the hero does his best to uncover the truth. A reasonable read, but I think it should be aimed at young teenagers. Maybe it was. Also contained many typos mainly in the form of homophones (no it's not rude) suggesting the use of speech-to-text with inadequate proof reading.

I read this after reading his first book and really enjoyed both . Lots of twists and turns and detailed characters. A great easy read . Reminded me a little of how Lee Child writes his characters.

These stories are very visual with a great feeling for the outdoors and like Wilbur Smith and his South African descriptions I find David Wolf's Stories very atmospheric.He follows a trend I am seeing in recent books of working in abbreviated and succinct narative tho he still uses punctuation , I'm glad to say.I am interested to see the developement of characters from book 1 and note that human relationships are the same the world over.Yet there is no overdoing their traits.As I said succinct.And they make me feel quite at home (Northern Ireland) even if they are dressed in a different attire and driving strange sounding vehicles. 4 star rating because I was disappointed it had finished!

The David Wolf series has me gripped, a hugely satisfying read. I am a big Lee Child fan and have to say I didn’t think anything could match Jack Reacher. Just finished The Silversmith my second book in 6 days just can’t put these books down.

Things move fast in David Wolf’s stories, that now l have to read faster to get through the other 15 in the series. He is that type of character, that brings you in, grips you, takes you on a fast journey, to the end.

After reading author Jeff Carson's first David Wolf book, Foreign Deceit , I pretty much HAD to get this continuation book, since he shamelessly left us readers hanging at the end of Foreign Deceit, unsure of whether or not David Wolf, after returning from Italy having solved the murder of his brother, would be promoted to Sheriff or not. And that is exactly where this story picks up, taking us into the town council meeting where David is waiting to learn whether or not he's the new Sheriff in town, or if the council will decide to give the job to his rival (and bully) Derek Connell. I'm not going to give away the decision, but the story launches off immediately from that council meeting and takes us on a fast paced ride as Wolf fights to unravel the motivations behind killings in town, leading to some revelations that reverberate all the way back to the death of his father, who himself had been Sheriff some years prior. These are good stories. The character of David Wolf is becoming filled out and I like the personality that Carson has given him. My only complaint, in fact, is that the story is rather short - roughly half the length of most novels of this type. That's ok given the pricing for this book, and I see that the next chapter in the David Wolf saga ( Alive and Killing ) is longer and correspondingly more expensive (but still very reasonably priced). All of the David Wolf stories are mid-length, it seems, and I guess the benefit of that is that they are comfortable reads. No problem. Enjoyable, with the right amount of action and not over-doing the violence, no objectionable language that I recall (at least not enough to make an impression on me), very little romantic activity (I think Wolf could use more action along those lines, we'll see what Carson gives him in coming chapters). I'll keep going and see how this David Wolf series develops.

I liked this a lot. There are 12 books in this storyline to date. I bought it for entertainment

This is the first book I've read from Jeff Carson. It is well written with a mixture of action and suspense. Highly recommended.
