Panasonic WER224S7398 Beard Comb Attachment

Fine, for the moment. This is the 2nd replacement of this part--it is rather brittle, fragile. I believe the flaw is in the original design, so not much you can do about it. The previous replacement lasted for 7 years, so... acceptable I guess.

This is, in fact, the replacement comb attachment for the ER224, which is identified on my boyfriend's model as ER224 RC (and, as others have noted, is the same as the ER224S), and appears to be exactly the same part as the original. The second picture is the one that is incorrect, the first picture is correct (at the time of this review). Everyone has already noted how fragile the attachment is and I would bet anything that every broken attachment out there is broken in the same place -- bottom-left and/or bottom-right corner of the back of the comb (the side with the smiley face-shaped bottom). This can happen if you drop the trimmer comb-side down or your girlfriend borrows the trimmer and removes or replaces the comb too forcefully :-). When installing the replacement, take a few minutes to lift off the blade attachment, which I'll also wager you've never done before. It just lifts toward you and pops off. The insides will be full of hair. Surprise! An old toothbrush and compressed air work great. A spring holds the two blades together and can be easily removed and reinstalled if you want to take the opportunity to clean and then add a fine watchmaker's lubricant. Seriously, this isn't a timepiece. Set the blade height to the lowest setting (1) and slide the new comb gently over the slots until it snaps into place. We've had this trimmer for almost 10 years -- I'll replace the combs as many times as I have to until the thing finally dies.

I'm glad this part was available. My old one shattered into 4 pieces when I dropped it headfirst into my empty bathtub. Considered using super glue, but experience with plastic parts told me it wouldn't work the same. Was *this close* to buying a brand new one when I thought, Amazon MUST have a replacement part, and they did!Fits just like the old one. I just wish there was a less rigid plastic version (or possibly even metal) that could take a beating; it looks like it's got the same brittle-ness as the old one. I doubt it cost nearly as much to make as the listed price, but it's still worth getting rather than buying a whole new electric clipper.

But without this attachment, they're useless for beard shaping. So, it grants longevity to an otherwise great product.It works: When it doesn't break, it does its job well. The comb provides various lengths for precise beard maintenance.The Bad:Fragile: This is the major issue. I've gone through 4 of these attachments, and all have broken with moderate use. Plastic teeth snap, rendering them useless. Frustrating, to say the least.Pricey: For a small piece of plastic, the cost is astronomical. It feels like you're paying a premium just because it's the only option.Overall:This attachment is a necessary evil. It keeps my beloved trimmers alive, but its fragility and high price are major drawbacks. If you can find a more durable alternative, go for it. But if you, like me, are attached to your Panasonic trimmer, you'll likely end up needing this, despite its flaws.
