Hello, can this product be used on a paper book jacket for a hardback book? My hardback book has a nice paper cover but it slips and slides.

Yes, that is exactly what this cover is designed for. It goes over the dust jacket to protect both the jacket and the book.

Can you use on smaller books? Is it “down-sizable” I guess you’d say?

Yes, you can about half it, I'd say. And I have done that a time or two. But, it's a waste of paper and plastic when they sell 10″ rolls that are longer for about the same price. I have the 10 yard roll of 10″ for most normal sized books and a 5 yard roll of the 14″ for bigger books.

How many books does 5 yards cover

As the 14-inch wrap is for LARGE books, I'd say 6 or 7 books out of 5 yards (15 feet)

It is clear, so the book cover can be seen when the plastic covering is on? The white paper comes off?

I have covered a LOT of books using this Brodart acetate. You place a dust jacket in between the plastic and the white interior sleeve. You then fold in the vertical direction so the height matches the spine of book. Then fold inside the front and rear covers and trim as necessary w scissors. I had a book once with no dust jacket, so I scanned the cover, printed out, and used that as a dust jacket. The answer to your question is can you cut the paper out and just use the acetate plastic. Yes, it should function pretty much the same way. You can't cut the paper out all the way (it is glued into the seam), but you can create new folds as you adjust it to the height of the spine. I can provide a couple photos if you wish.

Perfect for Classroom Library Books

This pairs well with 1/2 in of filament tape. One 5 yrd roll was just enough for my hardcover Harry Potter series. These books were covered to be in an elementary school classroom. They will definitely be protected!

Does the job

My mother was a librarian and let me use pieces from her big roll of book cover material. It had telescoping top and bottom sections so a wide range of sizes could be fit. This roll is intended for just one size of book, but a satisfactory result can be achieved with some folding. The material is strong enough to protect the cover.
