Volcano: Live, Dormant and Extinct Volcanoes Around the World (Wonders of Our Planet) Hardcover – May 4, 2021

I love the book. Anything about volcanoes is great in my book. I read about them and love to watch documentaries about volcanoes and earthquakes. There’s just so much to learn about both. That said, the book was very damaged. One corner is pretty much chewed up almost like a dog got hold of it or it got caught up in some machinery. I’ll probably keep it, but somebody needs to be a little more careful about handling and delivery of books.

This is probably one of the finest volcano books I have ever seen as it features active, dormant AND extinct volcanoes from a truly global geographic perspective. Yes, it’s another coffee table size production but its size enables the photographs to be very detailed.Famous volcanoes like Merapi and Vesuvius are in abundance as well as ‘lesser known’ ones: an incredible suite of Russian, African, Caribbean, and South American volcanoes. Licancabur, in the Atacama Desert, is one of my personal favorites and it is featured in two beautiful pictures which also include Juriques, a ‘parasite’ of Licancabur.The photographs are coupled with excellent brief texts that may inspire many readers to do further research on most of these volcanoes. One minor quibble: there is no index but there is a page with photographic sources and copyright attributions. This book is for everyone interested in volcanism: casual readers, experts, and even children. The photos of the Russian and African volcanoes alone are worth the purchase price. A much lower price than expected by the way.

I love To learn and I love to read. At 49 keeping my interest is an ongoing battle. So I wanted a volcano book that listed various volcanoes around the world and this book was perfect. It gives you a description of the volcano and a picture to go with it which is awesome since I'm a visual type of person. Buy this book it actually perfect for a person who does a report on the subject. Mind you I'm too old for this, but its perfect either way. Enjoy!

This book is amazing. The photographs are high quality and well chosen with concise information presented in each caption. Great addition to our homeschool library.

I like the comprehesive look at volcanoes aroud the world and their particular chacteristics.

The contents and images are great, quality is so so. For me only to read is perfect, but the book it self does not seem like it would take much wear or tear. The images are nice but the paper is not glossy. 3 stars.

Ford is a coffee table picture book which showcases over 200 spectacular photos of over 100 volcanoes. Krakatoa, Vesuvius, St. Helen's, Fuji, Mauna Loa, Eyjafjallajokull, etc. If you have heard of a specific volcano it is probably in this book. These photographs range from hauntingly violent to calmingly peaceful to achingly beautiful. Many are completely suitable for framing and display. All are educational and thought provoking.The book is organized by five geographical areas and includes a detailed discussion of each volcano. The explanations include relevant history, interesting facts, scientific details, geographic terms, and even cultural tidbits and anecdotes. Although it might have been nice to have maps to accompany each volcano, this may have distracted from the focus and emotional impact of the photography. All in all, it was a pleasure to peruse this book.

Bigger than expected but the illustrations are amazing. Not finished reading yet but I definitely think it's worth every penny.
