Take a look at the batteries If they're working correctly and both Ty and Rebbit need batteries.

Can this also be pushed around without using the remote?

Not really. It does not roll well when pushed. You could not push it and have it go across the floor on its own either. It is a really fun toy though. My daughter really likes it. She especially likes the "hide and seek" feature.
