SILK VOL. 1: THREATS AND MENACES

I really like the relationship the characters have with each other as well as the art design. I also find the plot very interesting.

Honestly, a fun read. I plan on getting the next one. With that said the writing at times was rough. It's clearly written for teenagers and not an older audience. The references to emojis and millennial life is painful at times because of how heavy handed it is. Silk herself is incredibly interesting and I love the character and design. Easy to recommend to anyone. Just isn't perfect and has its faults.

I didn't want to like this book/arc so much. But it just kept growing on me and growing on me. What started as a 3-star couldn't be stopped from sprouting two more. Not over-written, REAL (as much as can be done in Superheroland), well drawn (most of the time, the drones and earrings and other tech got confusing and meshy (sic) a few times). Silk may be my favorite of the NMG (Next Marvel Generation) characters and wanna-be stars. Promising supporting characters too (except Jonah; this is too warped from his other appearances and actions; is this a younger Jonah clone maybe?). Keep up the good work, Ms Goo and crew! No Spidey or Doc S, but Silk's a definite keeper and a person to grow. No whining allowed (OK, maybe Peter-level whining, but no more than that.). I look forward to Volume 2.

Threats and Menaces sees the return of Silk in a 5 issue Mini-series, as she investigates strange goings on for J Jonah Jameson's new magazine Threats and Menaces, as Cindy Moon investigates a series of gangland killings and also finds herself playing bodyguard as silk for J Jonah Jameson. The new "big bad" is an interesting character who really could end up playing well against a lot of Marvel's heroes. The plot is good and there's a great number of twists and turns. Cindy is likable and fun to read. My one complaint is that they did try to shove in a storyline regarding her therapist and I don't think the book was long enough to do it justice. Still, this was an intriguing read and I'm disappointed we won't get to read more of this writer's work on Silk. Still, if you were intrigued by the original books with Silk in them, this is a good read.

An ok setup book for Silk. To be honest I was expecting a bit more from this book. There was nothing bad about the book, just I felt like there was something missing for me. The book does well about showing the life, career and supporting characters for Silk/Cindy. I would have liked a bit more action in this book book. The thing is just as it captured my interest it was over. I am looking forward to things picking up in the next book, especially as all the setup is done now. The book finishes with a thumbnail cover gallery, including varient covers.
