EFFICIENT STUDY MATERIAL
I am currently studying for my English MTEL, I have paid for a number of online practice tests, bought several different study books and this seems to be the best in terms of content specificity and detail. This book is concise and deals with concepts which I think is smarter when teaching such broad content.

I should have listened to the reviews. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK.
I just walked out of taking the MTEL English test an hour ago, and I can say without hesitation that Mometrix's MTEL English study guide is an almost complete waste of money. But I bought it, because I was desperate to find study material, and this was one of the only study guides I could get my hands on.What's wrong with the guide? First of all, too much of the study guide is given to test taking tips that you could find anywhere online for free. Then, when they actually get to the information, it is so over-packed with specific details while at the same time saying very little. And of all the pages of notes about the subject, only three pages are given to discussing specific authors, and those pages are extremely limited. Second, as others have written, the practice test bears very little resemblance to the actual test. Sure, they share the fact that they are multiple choice (the guide doesn't even address the writing portion of the exam!) but that's where the similarities end.I could go on and on about how this book was completely unhelpful to me and a waste of $50, but I'm tired from taking a 4 and 1/2 hour long test. So, suffice it to say that this book should NOT be purchased.By the way, at the beginning of this review I said that the book was an "almost" complete waste of money. The reason I didn't say it was an absolute waste of money was there is probably good information found somewhere inside, it's just really hard to dig out.

High Hopes
I'm in the process of reading this book and studying for the English Mtel. My confidence has been extremely low, but reading this book, and reading other success stories on how this book has helped, I can't help but feel excited that this is my chance to pass.

This study guide was a terrible waste of money
This study guide was a terrible waste of money!!!!! The questions on the MTEL English-07 were not at all formatted the way they were presented in this study guide and this guide was trying to cram in too much information and was also very disorganized. The smartest thing you can do is to buy the Baron's EZ-101 American Literature and English Literature books and read them - get comfortable with major themes (Romantic Period, etc.). I supplemented additional information of authors/works that were listed in the test objectives through Wikipedia. Then I hit the jackpot and checked out www.quizlet.com and, sure enough, the wheel had already been invented. Many, many people had created study guides through this electronic index card program - I found notes for each section of the objectives and reviewed daily. I passed with high marks.

Very helpful
This book was a great quick review just before exam. Didn't replace studying, but great tips to think about. I passed both in same day first try!

English certification
Easy to follow. Broken down enough for better comprehension.

Not as helpful as I had hoped.

The questions provided on the practice test look nothing like the format on the actual test
This book is not a helpful tool in terms of preparing for the English MTEL. Do not buy! The questions provided on the practice test look nothing like the format on the actual test, and 90% of the information provided is not useful when preparing for the exam. Additionally, the way the book is formatted (bulk summaries then one practice test) is not an engaging study tool. It would be so much more helpful to have practice questions alongside content to make studying more active. Don't waste your money.
