Mine holds my 10 x 10 and I only use dirt and sand. I did soak and tamp several times. Dog the hole big enough to hold it. The base will be just above surface. Hope this helps.

it is universal if you install the pole holder.  The plate has mounting holes if you are going to mount an offset umbrella (I don't know if that is universal).

I used the pole holder and it works very well.

I don’t know all of the brand, but we have the Purple Leaf and it works without modification.

You do need to make certain you put it in the ground correctly for your brand though (if you don’t have an umbrella pole that rotates).
I say that because the hole for the Purple Leaf brand are drilled in at an angle 45° from the other brands’ holes and had we set it up square to the sidewalk, the umbrella overhang direction would have been at a 45° angle.
The purple leaf pole rotates about the long axis 360°, so it wouldn’t really be an issue because you can just crank the umbrella overhang into the direction you want, but maybe that’s why they built the Purple Leaf brand holes at 45°, so if you just throw the in-ground base in without paying attention with one of the other brands, hopefully it would still be square and you could then just manually rotate the pole base 90° to get the overhang the direction you need it and still be appropriately located. Just a theory?

I don’t know how to put that into words any better, but basically the Purple Leaf’s brand fits at the diagonals but since it will crank around the pole to put the umbrella in any direction, you don’t have to worry about how its pole anchor base sits. However, with the other brands that don’t crank around to change the umbrella location, you would have to unscrew it, rotate it, and put it back down, and would also be limited to 90° increments.
