Great range top, hot oven that fails to deliver low temp settings. So beautiful and so disappointing.
I'm sorry to report after working with it for a week; this range has real pros but real cons... Everyone told me not to buy Italian and I thought that so prejudicial. The dealer discourages you from buying it (for no particular reason), pushing you to the big-name brands that are 60-80% more expensive. You figure they're just going for bigger commission. You want the beautiful small, lighter weight thing, you don't think bigger, heavier = bettter, so you take the chance....PROS: beautiful stainless, beautiful cast iron continuous grates, beautiful high-performance burners on range top with very useful span of BTU levels, good research & design ideas on the range top, true counter-depth size perfect for smaller homes, nice oven window, continuous glass that can be removed to clean, convection oven.CONS: hot air blows straight on you to *cool the oven door,* oven temperatures run hot, the manufacturer tells you their tolerance is 50F above and 50F below the set temperature --that's a pretty wide range! Mine runs 25 hot at the low end, 50F hot at 375 and it seems a much hotter variance at 425, but I don't have anything reliable to measure it with. I could live with that if the variance was consistent, all cooks need to *learn* a new instrument. But..... with a minimum temp setting of 275, and the oven running a solid 300 at that setting, you cannot maintain an oven setting under 300! Can't oven-dry tomatoes, can't keep finished food warm, can't do any slow-roasting operation in this range--total design flaw for anyone who actually cooks. The service 800# representative insisted my dial was not functioning correctly; he said OF COURSE it should turn lower than 275 and set up a service appointment. Then he researched further... he appeared more interested in winning an *argument* than understanding the capabilities of his product and the needs of a cook--he stated that the dial is indeed designed not to turn lower without turning off, but that I was incorrect the lowest setting was 275 --the lowest setting is 270F. Dude, same issue at 270 as 275. It's really 300 inside and that's not low enough on the low end for a real oven--in America or in Italy--if you ask this cook.Consumer Reports actually rates this range/oven quite well, but the overall score is low because of the *small oven.* Small oven is OK with me, I roast veggies, bake savory tarts, etc. and not 30lb turkeys. I didn't want to install the electric power source for a dual-fuel range. I thought the 2yr warrranty would cover any issues but it's worthless if they make all questions into an operator issue. The most troubling issue with this manufacturer is when you call in to talk to them, starting with nothing but positive enthusiasm, to ensure your range/oven are functioning properly to give it the best chance to perform for you... all issues you are having are vehemently defended as your absurd expectations (a 100F temp variance??) as if you are an unreasonable American who does not appreciate the european efficiency that they state is their priority. NEWSFLASH BERTAZZONI: I am specifically looking for small-scale, fine-craftsmanship efficiency. I purchased a New Zealand frig (which I love) and an Italian range exactly because I appreciate the nice-not-big appliance; but I was expecting it to fulfill the minimum range of functions a gas oven should deliver. Most gas ovens will fluctuate in temp - if you want precision, you must go dual fuel, but 50F up and 50F below? And no setting lower than 270-300F? My 20-year old $600 Kenmore had a 200F setting....
