Loved for years, now not so much
I was given a copy of this book not long after it came out 29 years ago. I loved it to the point where I re-read it every year. I added it to my Kindle a few years ago and still read it yearly. I recently discovered the "why I wrote this book" in the back of the Kindle edition and re-read the book, hoping to read the book with a different mindset. I do understand the author's thoughts about why she wrote the book, but truly, I did find Dougless' constant crying annoying. The character really didn't have as much depth to her either. Things occurred in the book that didn't make any sense either. Dougless worried about singing modern songs to 16th century people ruining their popularity in modern times, yet never hesitated to use a calculator while 16th century maids were embroidering? There was far too much that made zero sense and I hated the ending just as much as I have every time I read the book. Nicholas and his family were religious believers and then reincarnation of one's soul comes out. Maybe a sequel is called for or additional chapters, but that last chapter left me wanting. I probably will not re-read this one again. Maybe reading so many time travel books, of which I am addicted to, have tainted me to a story that is now 29 years old. Maybe Outlander ruined me for this particular romance book. I'm shocked the author has received so many awards for the book. I gave it three stars instead of one because the interest for me lay in the present day section and the 16th century section and how Dougless changes history in a good way. In the end ... this book needs a good re-write.

My soul will find yours
Iโm absolutely in love with this book. I knew I would enjoy it based on the blurb. It had everything I look for in a book: angst, character growth, love that defies everything. What I really appreciated was how much both MCs were willing to sacrifice for sake of each other. Iโm not going to lie I was dreading the end because I kept thinking โwhat ifโ but it had the most suitable end for this book. My only complain is that I wish we could have read a bit more about the two, like at least an epilogue.- โMy soul will find yours, Nicholas had written.โ- โHe smiled at her and it was Nicholasโs smile. Thank You, God, she thought. Thank You.โ:โ) I will be rereading this book many times for sure. Also a side note, there were some parts (not really pertinent to MCs for the most part) that made me feel uncomfortable though I understand thatโs how things were back then but still I couldnโt help but feel icky about them.

I love time travel books that give me a glimpse of ...
This was the very first book of Jude Deveraux's that I read, many years ago and talk about getting hooked. After reading Knight in Shining Armor I spent the next few years going through Deveraux's works, in order, once I figured out that they followed the lineage of a couple of families. If I'm not mistaken this one is actually somewhere in the middle, I think.I love time travel books that give me a glimpse of how we might perceive things in the past and vice versa and I think this was the book that awakened that desire.I've read this book at least twice but I believe I will download it to my kindle and as it's going to be a rainy weekend this will be the perfect book to curl up with.Another book I read about the same time as Knight that also goes on my all time favorite books I would recommend is "The Mirror" by Marlys Millhiser. Time travel and body switching.

This book has been on my most favorite books since I first read it in 1989
This book has been on my most favorite books since I first read it in 1989. I have read it 2 or 3 times since then but I still cried at the end when I finished it this morning.Ms. Deveraux's attention to details is fantastic, who knew that the Elizabethans swaddled their toddlers and hung them on pegs to keep them out of everything . That was one fact that has been stuck in my mind since my first reading. I have loved all her Montgomery books and they have become my go to books when I need to get swept away and just sigh. thank you

Hands down best historical romance ever!
I first read this book about 20 years ago. And I vividly remember turning to the last page and then starting all over again. Mrs. Deveraux has a beautiful way of capturing your heart with these wonderful characters. Since that time I have re-read this book at least 10 times. I am an avid reader and this is the only book that I have come back to repeatedly. She makes you fall in love with characters and their seemingly impossible romance, but best of all she makes you laugh out loud with some of their hilarious encounters. So if you are looking for a book that you just can't put down, this is it! I promise you will not be disappointed!

I finished it...
I finished the book but I found myself skipping over parts just to see the story play out. The romance was unrealistic. The main character herself admits that she falls too quickly in love and yet based on the timeline of events, she falls out of love with one man she was dating for a year and into love with another in a matter of what.. a week?SPOILERSThen, when she comes back from the past after what was no more than a month or so, she is so shocked by modern marvels? Come on.. you lived 23 some odd years in the 20th century, you don't forget about cars, hot water, and noise after a month. Heck, I'd be dying for a hot shower after a month.Overall, I couldn't connect with the characters, I didn't feel the romance and I'm not sure what kept me reading.. perhaps just wanting to see it through to the end.

A Fun Read
I nearly did not buy this book. I read the sample chapters and was not impressed. I thought the main female character shallow and stupid and the man she was with (and the daughter) one dimensional and unbelievable. And the idea of a knight from Elizabethan times following the sound of the heroine crying into the 20th century ludicrous. BUT I knew that this was a highly rated book (popular) and so I read some of the Amazon reviews and I kept coming across complimentary things about the characters etc. so I thought what the hell... I'll try it. I AM SO GLAD I DID. First the hero, he funny and he's lovable and he's sexy. What more can you want. I have rarely laughed as much as I did in this book. (In a good way that is) The heroine improves... character development - that's what it's all about. Suspense, heroism, romance and a complete and satisfying story arc. Even out of this impossible scenario the writer managed to achieve an optimistic / happy ending. RECOMMENDED.

Enchanting !
I really enjoying reading this book ! I was hooked from the very beginning. Furthermore I loved the way this author writes. The first part of this book is my favorite, I laughed many times and I felt in love with the H. Our h annoyed me sometimes. On the other hand the second part of the book left me with mixed feelings toward our H/h, specially with our h due to she strikes me more crazy about our H than him and this bothers me deeply. However, I really enjoyed this book and their love story. On top of that the ending was very enchanting ! Love it !

Terrible
If you are going to write a time-slip novel featuring two time periods, it's a good idea to know something about those time periods. Take for instance money in England in 1988, it was (and is) metric not shillings and 6 pences, pretty easy for an American to understand being very similar to dollars. There were not punks everywhere considering the height of punk was around 1979. English people in the 80s did not have tea and scones at 4 o'clock every day. Earls from Elizabethan England did not travel in chariots. Banks did exist in Elizabethan times and interest was certainly thing an Earl would know about. The point at which the hero asked 'What's interest?' was enough for me. Added to a whiney, self-pitying doormat of a heroine, unbelievable plotline, and characters, the blatant historical inaccuracies had me returning the book for a refund.

Best book I've read for years!
This is the perfect romantic story about a literal knight in shining armour and time travel - two of my favourite subjects! The hero is perfect in every way, but not one-demensional. He certainly has his faults and can be infuriating, but this makes him human. Likewise the heroine. She is not the usual feisty, confident lead character, but has her own demons to face and her own weaknesses to confront. I haven't enjoyed a book so much for years and will definitely re-read it. Don't hesitate - you will love it!

Surprisingly good story
I told myself this book would be frivolous nonsense but wanted a knight themed story. Turned out to be fun and I couldn't put it down. You just have to find out what happens at the end.I will be looking up another title by this author the next time I want a good light hearted and entertaining read.
