Q: Does the tape have backing that has to be removed or is it just a sticky backing that goes directly on the floor?

It has a backing liner. You simply peel it away and apply to a surface that is clean, dry and free from grease. I hope that this helps!

Q: Does it adhere to carpet?

The tape is designed to be a permanent adhesive. If applied to carpet, it may create a tripping hazard. We cannot guarantee the life of the product if adhered to carpet. Also, it is highly likely that once the tape is removed there will be a sticky residue left behind.

Q: Can this be applied to gym floors to mark volleyball lines?

Yes this tape has been used as court marking tape

Q: Is this 2 inches wide? Some people have 1.88 and round up. I need to know this is exactly 2 inches wide and no less

I don't know exactly because I'm not where I can measure, but I do know it's a hair narrower than my painted court lines. You have to be really close to see it though.
