Surprisingly useful!
I didn't really know what to expect when this was recommended to me. I was thinking it might just be another form of command strips, or double-stick tape. But I was completely wrong, this stuff is fantastic if you need to put something up long term but not leave any (and I mean any) residue behind. Depending on how much you use, you may still have to pick off some tiny bits and pieces after removal, but it comes off with no problems whatsoever and can be re-used a lot. Definitely something worth having around the house.

This is what museums use to hold ancient pottery to a display…
I ordered this after learning that the local Southwestern History Center uses it to gently hold ancient pottery in place. I am using it for a similar reason and it works great!

Sticks to everything—almost!
I used this to hang framed artwork in a show. One nail holds the top of the piece, and a small ball of this putty (about half the size of a pencil eraser will do) ensures the picture remains level. Note: you really don't need a full tab of this to hold a picture level.About the only thing this won't stick to easily is some super-slick plastic. One example is the Ikea Ribbaframes, which are a cheap wood composite wrapped in a thin plastic film much like Contac Paper. In that case, I had to scuff the frame with fine sandpaper. Warming the putty by rolling it between your fingers also helps.I recommend, too, that you start with a ball of putty, set it on the frame, then use your fingers to smoosh the sides of the ball so they spread out parallel to the back of the frame, pressing them down firmly as you go. By really spreading and pressing, you'll get more adhesion than simply pushing the ball of putty straight down onto the frame.Removal is pretty easy, though sometimes you have to work at it for a half minute or so to get all the bits. You can re-use this putty after short-term use and probably after long-term as well.I've had trouble with other mounting putty taking off flakes of wall paint after being in place for many months. So far, thisbrand han't had that problem, but I haven't had it in place more than several weeks.
