Comprehension Skills: Short Passages for Close Reading: Grade 6

I buy a lot of these books for Do Nows and Drills in my classroom. I love this one for several reasons. First off, it identifies the skills being targeted in each exercise. The passages are short and concise, making them perfect for a Do Now activity. Additionally, it includes a short answer, critical thinking question at the end of each exercise. The passages are high interest and the illustrations add something to the text.

This book is wonderful. I bought it for a 7 year old which will probably be above what level she is on but I also bought the one for 3rd graders so she will work her way up to this one in no time!

This workbook is an excellent tool in my preparation for my daughter to start 1st grade in the fall. The passages are short and clear and the comprehension questions that follow are great for ensuring your child understands what was read. Buy this!

Great book for children in school that might have a situation in comprehension.

I always purchase a grade level up for my son to help practice. Productive and easily can be implemented for summer time use!

This was perfect for a quick resource. I used this with small groups, for whole class active engagement, and for quick little assessments.

I use this book for busy days like practice days. A very short paragraph ( a half page or less) and a few quick multiple choice questions. It takes only a few minutes to finish. It still a brain work. I would rather have him do something like this than skipping work altogether. Each paragraph is interesting to me, too.

I thought this would be a book on reading comprehension. Some of the questions it asks are Which is a detail in the paragraph? The main idea is? Can you guess what Molly would like?(predicting question) Vocabulary questions: The word flake in the story means what? What will happen next? Which sentence is an opinion? I felt the book missed the point of reading comprehension at a first grade level. I felt it was more literature analysis who does that in first grade? I also felt the reading level was hard for first grade. This book would be impossible to hand to a typical first grader and expect them to work independently. It did have cute short stories many about social studies and science which is the only reason it even gets 3 stars.
