This is a great starter setup for anyone looking to get into the Ring Alarm system. Installation is straightforward, everything pairs easily in the app, and it’s been reliable since day one. One of the biggest positives is how expandable the system is. You can easily add extra sensors, cameras and accessories as needed. I would strongly recommend adding the external siren as well – the base unit alone isn’t loud enough to alert neighbours, and the outdoor siren makes a big difference. I’d also recommend signing up to the Ring Protect plan, as it adds better monitoring and makes the system feel more complete. Overall, a solid, user-friendly alarm system that does exactly what you want it to do.

I hesitated for a while since the price seemed a bit high for me. In the end of the day I bought it on discount and got convinced that it's worth it even with the full price. For the peace of mind and easy DIY install you get - it's cheap. It is that good that now I have it with add-ons and several of my friends got one after recommendation. Let me summarise my 5 cents on it: Good stuff: - Easy installation. It is really DIY. No electrical or IT degree needed, the app guides you through easy, step by step instructions. I personally had 0 issues. Tbh I expected it as I had so far just good experiences setting up any of my ring products and add-ons. Ah yes, an NO CABLES = everything is neat and tidy! - Great connectivity / signal. I have additional add-on sensor on the side porch and a motion sensor in my shed outside. So you understand, from the shed till the point of where alarm sits is about 25 m and it has a great signal. What's more amazing this is without the range extender! So I did not even bothered to plug the range extender, still have it new in the box. - Batteries live long. Since 2.5 years, I changed the batteries at around 2 years on the motion detection sensor in the house, which sits in the hall in is triggered lots of times daily. And changed the batteries just today on the same sensor in my shed, which gets triggered less often. All the door and window sensors still are going strong! - Simple yet amazing functionality. The keypad provides you with essentials, keys, 3 modes (armed, disarmed, home) and 3 emergency buttons (medical, fire & emergency) pressing which for a few seconds will trigger the alarm. You can get full detailed event history for every single sensor, or you can see the aggregated view in your alarms base station through Ring app. You can change audio volume and to play or not chirps from the movements and/or door/window openings. You can select motion and close/open alerts & chirps to be switched on or off for every sensor! This is very convenient. For example you don't want a chirp in your house for every move when you are in & during the day time. But for example if you have sensors like me outside and in the shed, you might want those and not just for "visitors" but they work great even for animals and kids! :) I have also ring doorbell and ring cameras, so you can select actions this devices take when alarm sends an entry delay for example, so cameras can record events simultaneously and even sounds their own alarms, beside the base stations and outdoor siren if you have one. - Secure. The sensors have great sensitivity and in 2.5 years I did not had one time when an open door, window or sensor set to trigger the alarm - not to do it. I have an outdoor alarm add-on too and together with the base station at max they ring loud enough to make you feel panicking a bit inside and trying to stop it asap :D happened to us few times when entering home with kids and forgetting to disarm. Cons / To note: - Guys, honestly I can't think of many. Except maybe if outdoor siren would come in the pack by default, as it's also not exactly cheap. But I understand some people don't need it and are happy with base station ringing alarm (inside the house) only. Overall it's well tested in time, a reliable, simple and brilliant alarm in my opinion. I recommended it to friends and can responsibly do so here too. I have used both wired and Internet alarms in the past. Both have pros and cons. Finally getting fed up with the old wifi one I had I started look around. I saw the Ring 1st Gen and having heard good things about the ring door bell decided to keep an eye on it. In the meantime I purchased the Ring doorbell 4 which is top notch and this reinforced my views around connectivity (it was easy). Whislt watching the 1st Gen i saw that the 2nd Gen was about to land so held out until that launched. Now to say this unit was simple to install is an undrstatement. The hardest part is lining the screws up on the wall to mount (made simple by a template in the box) There is a keyboard and seperate base unit which do not need to be next to each other. Along with the additional sensors in the box. I ordered the 10 piece set. I didnt read the instructions and if like me the only advice I would advocate is one sensor at a time ie do not pull the battery guards out until using it. I can see why it would be confusing to try and set up all the sensors at the same time. The base station connected to the wifi straight away with ease. I then added the Keypad and the booster by scanning a QR code on the units. Once these were set up (follow the prompts on the ring app) I first mounted the front door sensor set it up and named it before moving on to the other door. Rinse and repeat for the windows. The Pirs are just as easy to set up with two or more mounting screws. For those wondering the Pirs are not much larger than the usual ones you see around buildings and in my opinion look a lot neater. Again the window/Door sensors and Pirs are QR coded. Thats it job done. Go back to the app. Set up the alarm code and invite household users to the device you nbow have a fully functioning house alarm that can be armed for the outer doors and windows (No PIRS) for nightime or all armed for when everyone is out. When I first tested the base unit alarm boy was I surprised how loud it was. Its Loud! In a nutshell this unit is worth it. You have complete control over all the functions of the alerm right down to push notifications. Its simple yet very effective. A final tip I would give you all is where and how to mount the sensors. remember they are battery powered so you need to be able to slide them of to do so. if you mount them to flush with a wall door or ceiling you may not be able to slide them off. Give yourself a bit of space. Overall a very good system and I am very happy with it. Next month I think I will drill a hole in the house and mount the external siren with power. As yet I don't have this bit of kit so will update the review when I have done so

As perhaps many, we began with a Ring hardwired doorbell, added some cameras and then on Prime Day this alarm pack. The modular concept is good and for wireless products they were simplicity to add to create a system. One star missing because (like many I suspect) I assumed that the doorbell and cameras would integrate into the alarm as they not only record video but have motion detection. But no, the alarm components use Z-wave whilst the doorbell and cameras use wifi so although they can be incorporated into the alarm, they do not form active elements. The other star loss item is the keypad. Whilst I appreciate there may be many who don't or can't wire the keypad and just leave it lying around, if you want to wall-mount it in a conventional/professional way it is not that simple. The method of mounting to the wallplate and the cable/plug arrangement make a neat wall-mount with no visible wires difficult to achieve. Finally, my pet peeve is manufacturer's insistence on crushing wires so tightly in the packaging that they can never be straightened out. Coil them for Heaven's sake! But all in all, the system works well (so far) and the optional Siren is particularly nice.

I was a bit dubious at first but I am so glad I got this! It's honestly a brilliant wee set up and so easy to do on your phone. I got the 5 piece and the best thing about it (that for some reason they don't use as a selling point) is that you can actually arm the system when you are at home. So if you put the contact sensors on the main door/windows and do the home arm setting, it means the motion sensors aren't activated by you walking about, but gives you peace of mind that if anything untoward was to happen, like some scum trying to get in in the middle of the night, the alarm would trigger. This is brilliant for people living alone and I don't know why they don't advertise this feature more than they do. I like that you can personalise all the settings for the various devices and for the price it is so good and the quality is good as well. The pieces are unobtrusive and look nice wherever you decide to put them. Great thing is there is no wiring and it will be so easy to take this with me when I move. I also like that I can add pieces in future if I choose. You do need wifi though. I would also say be sure where you want to place the contact sensors because once they are stuck on it is really tough to get them off again if you decide it's the wrong place! You can experiment with how to set it up and read the instructions about the motion and contact sensors properly because you have to put the motions 2.3 metres above the ground etc. So read the handbook properly or it might not work right. Other good thing is you get a month of the full monitoring service free of charge. Obvs they want you to continue paying after the free month ends but I don't think it's a bad deal at all and I think I probably will continue with it. But you don't have to if you don't want it. Lastly I really like the Ring app. It's simple and you can actually arm/disarm the system from the app on your phone instead of manually keying on the keypad, which is really brilliant. Again this is something that they don't really mention anywhere in the selling points but it's a great feature. I know I sound like I work for this company but I really don't. I am just really impressed with how it all ended up working. I think somebody has actually thought this system through logically and I am glad I went for this cause I looked at a few of similar type that were more expensive.

Update: The original review text below still stands but after three years, the hub states disconnecting and reconnecting. It’s wired and and it’s not the Ethernet or PSU, it’s a classic circuit board degradation pattern. It known and discussed a lot on Forums. I am debating what to do now in terms of replacements. Only two pieces (keypad and hub) need hardwired power. The others have a good sticky-backed attachment mechanism. After setting up the ring account on the app (also easy, just takes 10 minutes), the app takes you through setup step by step. I was impressed that the app “knows” what you have bought and keeps all the pieces/components neatly on the screen until you finish installing them. It allows you to be interrupted during setup and have to put the app in the background to do something else without having to start again. You will likely need some more contact sensors and / or motion detectors in due course, but this is a good starter pack to get used to the system. There are three main modes, in, out, and “sort-of-in” which is useful. This allows you to have just “external” doors and windows armed while internal doors or motion detectors do not cause alarm (ho-ho). (I put “external” in quotation marks as it’s user-defined which sensors are in that group). It uses “Z-wave” protocol to communicate with the hub which seems to penetrate the house and walls more easily than plain WiFi. I have detectors at distance across the house in places I struggle to get WiFi normally and they work perfectly. Nothing has “dropped” yet and I am some weeks into use. The app is very programmable to suit. I have scheduled automatic changes between the modes as a skeleton model so it arms externally after I fall asleep and turns off around wakey time. You can, of course, change these at the tap of the app. The geo-fence reminders are nicely done - they’re not “on or off” in terms of arming; you can just get a push reminder if you go out to see whether you want to arm the system or not - useful if someone is in that isn’t registered on the app. You can set extra users and phones that the system recognises if you wish; but this allows you to pop out for milk while the kids are home without the alarm going off etc. External or entry doors can be set so the alarm only goes off after a delay, while internal doors or motion triggers an immediate alarm. All in all, this is well-designed equipment, easy to set up and very programmable.

I have never installed a house alarm in the past until I purchased the Ring Alarm Gen 2 version, so easy to set up via the phone app. With the motion detector, door sensor, keypad, outdoor siren and base station delivered it was easy as ABC and upon completion we tested the exit and entry timed and works perfectly. Also too add it is all connected with our ring doorbell It's now gives us complete ease of mind when we leave our home knowing that if there was an intruder gaining access our phones will alert us in real time. I'm not an avid diy'er and no hassle with this outstanding product, I highly recommend the Ring product rather than other well known security products listed on here. ***** At the very least.

I fitted this alarm three days ago, and have found it to be very straightforward to use, and easy to fit. I purchased it from Amazon with a £90 discount, making it a bargain in my opinion. I would have paid the full price, but would have had to wait until later this year. I bought the basic kit for now, and intend to add more motion sensors and contact sensors later. In setting up the alarm, the base station is set up first. I had issues here. There were two options for setting up the alarm base, and I tried both options but neither worked. After multiple attempts I decided to contact the Ring helpdesk. The advisor was extremely helpful and talked me through the stages. The stages were exactly what I had done previously but this time worked immediately! (That is always embarrasing!) The advisor emailed me so if I had any more issues I would be able to contact him for advice, and it is a good job he did. I expected fitting the contact sensor to be awkward as the frame of the door is close to the wall, but more than the maximum inch. I tried it before fitting and it actually fitted fine and worked with no hassle. The range extender was a doddle to fit. Plug it in, the app soon found it. The motion detector appeared to be just as straightforward, until it the test to ensure it was working. I tested it as requested but when exiting the test mode the app told me it could not communicate with the app. I tried re-testing it, but that didn't help. I attempted to remove the motion sensor from the app but was told it could not communicate with the sensor. I tried removing the batteries to re-set it, but when I put them back in the app said it was still in test mode and when trying to exit test mode it said it could not exit test mode as there was no communication. Having had no success to come out of test mode I emailed the advisor. He made a couple of suggestions, all of which I had done. The sensor is working, according to the app it is detecting motion, but it is stuck in test mode. I am going to have to replace that sensor when I have a bit of spare cash. Disappointing, but hopefully I will have more look with others. Once set up the alarm is easy to use. Each user has their own code for the key pad, but equally the alarm can be set from the app on the smart zone. Exit/entrance delays can be set if the keypad is utilised to set the alarm, so the user can leave the house before the alarm is active. The keypad is re-chargeable, and the alarm base station can survive for 24 hours with no mains power, which is handy if you need to change the location. This is a very easy to install, easy to use, and is highly recommended. The issues were minor, and bar the motion sensor easily rectified. Once I have tried a new motion sensor I will update the review. 04/01/2022 Update to review I have re-tried setting the motion sensor up. On this occasion I was able to remove the motion sensor from the app, and re-install. Upon re-installation it worked prefectly and exited the test mode at the first time of asking. This is an excellent, inexpensive alarm system, that I can add to as time goes on. A basic set up to begin with, that secures the house. Further motion detectors and contact sensors can be added later.
