How Did They Name This Spice?
Quite a unique spice. I can definitely sense the relationship with pepper, but it is NOT pepper. What is most entertaining, though, are the various names this spice seems to have. I wish they had included a little write-up on the various and interesting names.

Excellent flavor, but watch the heat
Grains of paradise adds a wonderful, complex flavor to any savory dish. It tastes like a combination of several familiar spices, plus adds a woodiness to it. However, be aware that it's also hotter than black pepper. I used about twice as much as I should have the first time I used it; I was perfectly ok with how spicy the food was, but the rest of my family couldn't finish theirs because it was too spicy... but they all agreed it tasted wonderful. Experiment to find out the proper amount for you.

Grinder jar top would be very nice
I love this company and have purchased from them more than a handful of times in the past.It would be very nice if these came in a grinder jar with the lid being removeable for use whole, or, if desired, could be ground as one 'pours' them out.

Not grounded, but tasty
This is big balls of pepper, there's no way to grind it, sad. But the flavor is fine when I do get to crunch the big ball between my teeth. This is after I've cooked it in stew for 2 hours, it still doesn't dissolve
