I have a 4-5 inch goldfish, his fins are always red in areas, I attributed this to bad water changes as in my house water sucks horribly, hes in a 20 gallon tank. I replace the tanks filter every year or so (I clean it out tho), and figured it was doing a great job. Well I was sitting down one day and thought what is in the filter? I learned it was activated carbon, and that it has a limited capacity to absorb chemicals as far as surface area goes. Well I thought hey that amount they use into the filter must be expended. Ended up cutting open the current filter and dumping out the pieces of carbon, id say the filter was about 1/10th full, so I figured if this works on surface area I should shove a ton in there. I filled it up halfway and just sealed it again, put the filter back in, and low and behold my fish looks amazing, no red and hes swimming around like a maniac (happily of course). Overall id say my fish is way more healthy and it should maintain the filter longer because it works via surface area, water changes will cause chlorine and other chemicals to build up, but I'm guessing it will last a ton longer. (I've never put a new filter in and seen my fish lose the red marks) I was very surprised this worked so well. (I've had the stuff in for about 3 weeks) and now hes gaining orange color in his tail!

Don't understand why some of the folks who are very unhappy about the size of the container, Yes the container is small and the price is nice and affordable, I am tight on money moreso than normal, however I still was in great need of Charcoal for my filter, and the size of the container wasn't a problem for me and the price was just right for my budget. I figure I will get about 12 socks (Yeah I use ladies knee high nylon stockings to hold the charcoal in place), I have a 10 ten gallon so won't be a issuse with at how much amount of charcoal that came in the smaller container, the charcoal filled the container nearly to the top of rim. The Charcoal is also the perfect size to use in my on the back over the tank filteration system. I also use Charcoal infused pads, tho I do not like those very much so seldom do I use them and I have plently of those pads in stock. If you want a larger container then expect to dish out my money.

There isn't much you can say about activated carbon that hasn't already been said. Yes this does exactly what you think it will quickly. It removes tannins, chemicals, whatever it may be from your tank that you use carbon for. This is a really solid value for the dollar, and I particularly like the grain size. I feel that it offers more surface area so theoretically should be more effective than competitors.

This is not a big container. Smaller than expected and what I’ve bought I the past. Carbon is one of the most abundant elements on earth.
