Note: this question shows up when viewing the Unity XL cart also. The dimensions given are for the small version (mostly square), not the longer (rectangular) XL version. The XL top measures 45" x 20.5".

What is the diamete of the hook rod and is it removable?

The hook rod is about 1" in diameter. I removed the one on mine as I had no need for it or the paper towel holder so that the unit would fit the outdoor space I had in mind.

Can I use it for a small refrigerator?

is there a cover that one can buy to protect the top from the elements?

The Kingsford 24 inch grill cover, model # BC 222, is on Amazon as well as other sites for under $20. I just got one delivered a few days ago and it works perfectly. It is easy to put on and remove. If you live in windy areas there is a tie down, although you could also just place a heavy object on top to keep it from blowing away. I really like it and it's at a price point that won't break the bank.
