Ontel Brella Shield Car Windshield Sun Shade by Arctic Air, 31 x 57 in

OK....maybe it's not a showdown, but I decided to order the EcoNour windshield sun shade for my vehicle ( a GMC Sierra Crew Cab ) and the Brella Shield for my wife's vehicle ( a Hyundai Kona ) . She likes the Brella Shield because it is easily folds/unfolds in the window and the fact that it stores like an umbrella is a plus. My only concern was the durability of the framework mentioned in other reviews, but so far that has not been an issue ( did I mention she is a little OCD ). On the other hand, I'm just as pleased with the EcoNour Shade in my vehicle. To me it is easy to install/uninstall in the windshield and fold up. It also has a storage pouch. The bottom line.....both accomplish their purpose. Their is a difference in cost, but what it comes down to is your preference.

1 Star Lasted a year- July 2021 to July 2022. Poor quality, and it finally gave up completely. After a few months reduced to three stars due to quality issue. Full review below quality explanation The metal wire framework punctured through the material. End caps of the metal umbrella framework are rubber and the ends punctured through the rubber and then through the umbrella. Last photo attached shows the metal wire and the rubber end cap. I was able to replace with plastic ends from an old umbrella and salvage it. Tldr; Not easy to put up or down as advertised and dashboard scratching risk. This closes up tightly into a small form as advertised. After a dozen times you get good at putting it up without risk of scratching the dash. Pictures taken with shade opened in front of the rear view mirror and then behind rear view mirror. 2nd picture hard to see rear view mirror because of the black pattern on top of my windshield. 2015 rav4 If you put the top part of the shade behind your rear view mirror (close to driver) then it doesn't fit tight to the windshield. So there's an air pocket that could heat up and travel into the cabin anyway. If you stretch it in front of the rear view mirror (close to windshield) then it fits tight to the wind shield. It is not putting pressure on your rear view mirror mounting in either position. Next iteration should have extra material on the top center with an elastic border to fit around the rear view mirror better. (Top is where the velcro wrap cord is, seems to cover my window better that way) Not easy to open to the right spot above the dashboard and close to windshield in one movement like on TV. Open umbrella to where it starts to spread out 1/3 of the way open. Then move bottom closer into windshield area without scratching dashboard. Now open to 90% and tuck the material under the rear view mirror close to windshield. So rear view mirror should be behind the shade in the cabin. Pull down visors and complete opening. Even after the center clicks into place you sometimes have to click the outer metal frames flat as well It is a smaller form factor than a roll up sun shade when closed Also, this is made from the same material on a regular umbrella so I'm curious how well it will keep the car cool vs the thicker roll up shade I currently have. /After using a couple months it does as good a job as the roll up shades do keeping the heat out and steering wheel cool

09/27/26 great product; this is the third one I bought; one of the other ones broke down due to normal ware and tear; very easy to use; blocks the sun as it suppose to;

Tons of reviews are complaining that it’s cheaply made & fell apart.. but it’s an umbrella & if you’re prepared to be gentle with it since it’s not made of steel, then it should work just fine. I initially bought this for a 2010 F250- but it didn’t cover enough of the windshield to truly justify using it for that truck. However, it fits our Audi Q7 perfectly. I bought it in the beginning of the summer (which was SO hot in Texas this year) and after months of using it, it still works great. I will state that when we initially opened it, trying to get it to expand seemed impossible- but we figured out that before you try to open it, (leave the strap wrapped around it) you have to hold the handle and pull the umbrella portion up with a bit of force. It never gave us any issues after that first use. My guess is that people may have tried to force it open prior to that step, which probably damaged it. It’s quick and easy to put up and take down without any fuss and fits perfectly in door in between uses.

The idea of it being an umbrella for ease of putting up, removal and storage is fine. Two issues would be it’s not one size fits all. Fits better in my wife’s van which has a taller windshield than my truck which has a shorter one. Also, the shaft can push against the center screen or buttons depending on the angle of the windshield, which can scratch or damage something if you’re not careful. Covers about 96% with a couple inches on each side of exposed glass. I wish the material was a bit thicker, but it does reflect enough to reduce the cabin temp. Only issue is it’s not well made so after a few months of opening and closing, some of the metal parts are starting to break off. Not sure I would buy this particular one again, but the idea is great

ever since they first came out, I have been in love! It keeps the car so much cooler and doesn't take up too much space. You do have a tendency to whack the rear-view mirror as well as passengers when popping open. I have an SUV and it fits the windshield perfectly. will buy again.

Broke pretty quick w/Prius (lasted 2 weeks).. The plastic stem game away near the top so its un fixable. Its plastic but shoukd probably be metal. Its a nice idea but you need something that wont break. The accordion ones are fine. Why are we reinventing the wheel here? Accordion folds up great and does the job. 2 other things. Its a finger pincher, like an umbrella but more so. In addition, the umbrella handle has a tendancy to hit your console, which can change some setting for example, or if you have a phone mount or car Alexa mounted it can interact with that system of chargers. ALso it is really hard to get back in its case, and not easy to to retract. For retracting it need to be "double folded" like a W fold. Which is nonsense. I gave them 2 stars because I like innovation but really deserves 1 star, because in addition to money it was a waste time. And now I have to wait for something new to arrive from amazon while my car bakes in the sun. I dont have a lot of good things to say about it except, before it broke it did keep my car nice and cool!

Great idea to use for our SUV. Was worried it might be too small, but we have a 2019 Yukon, and fits with about 3" open on one side. So not too bad. Would be nice if the handle could be maneuvered to not block our DVD screen, we watch movies in the ferry line up.
