Will this hold different size pencils or markers?

The holder works with any standard sized pencil or pen, but will not work with Jumbo or other oversized writing instruments

Will this punch holes in the paper?

No, it doesn't 'punch' holes, but it will made a very small divot. The point is very sharp and if on a solid backing it only leaves a tiny divot that can be seen if looked for. Sometimes it's important so that the center can be found for other measurements & drawing.

How do I fix the knob?

Both the integrated Leg Twist-Lock and the Universal Holder screw are easily adjusted by simply tightening and un-tightening them as needed.
