It was so great to see her reading. They are not long. They give top highlights of what the topic is. We loved them and she learned a lot. Review: Great book for young readers - I purchased this book for my 7 yo second grade grandson in honor of our country's 250th anniversary. I wanted something that was NOT a graphic novel and would engage him. THe wasn't very excited about it at first but ultimately really enjoyed it! (At the same time I was reading another book in the series about the Constitution - an excellent read too! His dad is now reading it!!) This book is very manageable for early readers because it uses what my mom used to call "dictionary words" along with an easy to understand explanation. The historical facts are laid out in chronological order but as a readable story. The book is approximately 75 pages and is grouped into short chapters with large typeface making it feel very accessible to younger audiences. If you have a child you are trying to impart a love of reading (and for the USA) gove this book a try, along with the book on the Constitution!

What’s what,??
Bought these for my daughter, she loves the “What was” books. She found them at school and came home asking me to order her some. I did just that. It was so great to see her reading. They are not long. They give top highlights of what the topic is. We loved them and she learned a lot.

Great book for young readers

Used alongside a unit study for homeschool and enjoyed it. Written concisely to make the content easy for kids to understand. Will definitely look up others from this series!

Interesting and engaging book for kids who don't get into fiction.
My 9 year old son LOVES the WHO WAS and WHAT WAS books. Anything to do with history, military, adventure, exploration is his cup of tea. These books are short enough to hold his attention, but they're definitely a step up from early chapter books. If you have a kid who is struggling to get interested in fiction, s/he might be a non-fiction reader like my son.

Excellent reading material!
I received this book with another and I have enjoyed both books! Lots of information crammed into a small chapter book. I would definitely recommend this reading for children who are interested in history but have slight difficultly understanding it. Very informational! Would buy from seller again!

米国がどんな国か、その出自と本来的な性質を知るには[独立宣言]を読むのが一番近道だとレビュアーは考えています。 July 4, 1776.の全文はネットで原文を読めますので、まずそれを読んだほうがよいでしょう。 独立宣言の全文は本書には載っていないからです。 本書は米国人向けに書かれており、独立宣言の文章は既に知っていることが前提として書かれているようです。 「アメリカ独立宣言」の和訳は福沢諭吉訳がキンドル版でゼロ円で現在（201807時点）は買えますが、 「英国王、我諸州ニ内乱ヲ起サシメテ」という感じの古文調です。でも内容は容易につかめます。 原文を読んだあとで、背景や当時の前後の情勢が知りたくなったら本書が役立ちます。 「独立宣言」は英国王から搾り取られる"colonist"：入植者としての立場から書かれていますので、 大英帝国が如何に植民地を搾取弾圧する悪の帝国だったかということがよくわかります。 著者マイケル・ハリスの英文はとても読みやすい英語です。
