What is the 10ft cable for? Do I need a landline to set it up or does it use wifi?

The cable is wired into the camera on one end and is not removable. The other end is USB A and supplies power only. The camera's video is transmitted by 2.4gHz wifi, but does not work on 5gHz. If the cable isn't long enough get a USB extension cable like B08HHY622J. If the connection is outdoors, wrap it with some waterproofing electrical tape at the connection.

what does the service cost?

I have 20 of these cameras at multiple locations. I use SSD cards in all of them. My outdoor cameras have 128 GB cards. Sure the initial cost is higher but NO MONTHLY fees for the CLOUD. I love YI technology. When I first bought cameras for my home. One camera using bluetooth was $359. For that price I can hook up 3 homes now.

So its not an actual power cord at the end but a usb plug? i am assuming it comes with a regular outlet plug that the usb cord goes into right?

At first, I was annoyed that the power was supplied by USB. But I was actually pretty grateful that I could remove the supplied power plug when it came time to fish the USB wire through my eaves and down into my garage. Only a small hole was required. Then I just plugged the USB end back into the power plug once inside my garage.

Will it send me a notification for sounds? I am trying to track when my dog barks.

If your dogs bark is high pitched, yes. There is a "baby crying" alert.
