LOVE this pencil. Hundred in description should not make you hesitate to buy.
Love love these for drawing on newsprint. All I need is this for block in and one dark pencil for shading. I got confusted by some of the people that think this is not a good 4B pencil because of the hundred in the description. Don't listen. I had very old 4Bs and this is the same same pencil. I needed more of these for block ins. I don't like using 5 different pencils as my art teacher does so I use this to block in, tones, and even do the shadows by pressing darker. Less trouble than having 5 different pencils of different graphite tones. When I really want to do a great job I put shadows in with 6B or 8B. I am not a professional, just love drawing and this is my tool of choice along with a good used (older version) panasonic auto stop pencil sharpener. An older artist told me about it. New ones aren't as good. They are cheap on eBay. If I had to sharpen my pencil as my art teacher suggests with a razor or exacto I wouldn't draw. I break leads right and left doing this. I respect the artists who have the patience. Those long long leads sharpened this way produces beautiful work, but my work is pretty darn good with this sharpener. I have five of these Steadler pencils sharpened and ready to go before I draw. Great product, buy so they don't stop making them. I dont' want to buy a whole set just to get a 4B. Thank you Amazon for carrying 4B in a bulk pack.

Velvety smooth writing, cleanly erases
A friend recommended these 4B Mars Lumograph pencils when I commented on how lovely his music scores look. I really enjoy writing with them: unlike many pencils, the lead doesn't keep breaking as I sharpen them; writing feels smooth and velvety; and the graphite is nice and dark, doesn't get all over my hand (I'm left-handed); and easily erases with a white eraser.

High quality current day sketching pencils, classic design
Ordered a pack of 2H, got sent a pack of 4H. Won't linger on that, though, since theses are fantastic drawing and sketch pencils. Top is the current design, bottom is the older one from decades past. They're great pencils; they just usually run from $1-2 per, so it can get rather expensive to only use these for your drawings. Slightly (not a lot) weightier than the old variations but carry the same category of high-quality lead that is nearly impossible to break unless you're deliberately dropping it.

Wonderful deep dark lines, great for core shadows!
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I love Mars Lumograph 100 pencils. The graphite in this 12B is super soft and glides onto the paper. The graphite allows for long tip sharpening, a welcome feature for making those tiny marks.

Better and cheaper options available.
Compared the following pencils for daily writing, art and Asian Calligraphy (Kanji/Characters): - Staedtler Mars Lumograph 3B ($15) - Pepy Graphite Professional 3B ($10) - (936) Uni Wooden Pencil, 3B ($17) Uni is, by far, the clear winner. Absolute perfection! Writes smoothly, feels very, very smooth, consistent, more pressure sensitive since the first touch, feels softer, and erases much better. The paint coating is perfectly smooth. Comes with a high quality box you can keep pencils in, preventing them from marking up purses and backpacks, or other objects during transport. Pure pleasure! Ecstasy of a pencil! No effective difference between Pepy and Staedler in use (most won't feel any). Harder to erase, digging into paper, due to increased pressure requirements to get the 3B shades at since the first tip touchdown to paper. Better for writing, homework, underlining, drafting, etc. Had to use more pressure to go from super light to a a few shades darker. Staedler's blue paint coating looks much cheaper, thin, rough looking, the pencil wood not polished, like they saved on production. Staedler's wood is also cheaper. Pepy's coating is smooth and looks good, nit as good as Uni. Pepy's and Staedler's bodies feels thinner, and may be better for smaller hands. Uni feel juicier and thicker in the hand. Pepy has the least smell of wood/paint coating, and may be better if you are sensitive to smells. For best experience overall for artists and caligraphers, Uni is a clear winner by a long mile. Between Pepy and Staedler, Pepy is better and more affordable. I'll use Uni for most of my work, Pepy for daily menial work, and I won't be going back to Staedler, just keeping a few for when I simply feel like using a blue pencil. But if you like the smell of pencils, Uni is certainly the best. For writing a lot plus art, I'd go with Uni for sure. Less pressure to get the 3B shade for me is more control, more ergonomic with extended use. If you write Kanji, I'd go exclusively with Uni because your strokes will certainly rely on the pencil feel. And the strokes fall nice, as natural of a feel as possible for Kanji. Relative to fountain pens, comparing Uni pencils to the runner ups is akin to comparing a gold nib $150+ dollar pen to $25 -50 pen you can find at a regular office store. Uni is premium. Both Uni and Pepy make Staedler feel cheap when compared side-by-side.

My go-to pencils.
My go-to pencils. The lead doesn’t break, 4B is soft enough for me - dark with one swipe, no need to double back. I sometimes order their 5B.

LISTEN. 3B IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST SHADE YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE!!!!! 2b-4b is gold because it’s dark but still erases pretty well. love these 😚

Not the original ones
These are not the original pencils as specified in the description. The original ones have “MADE IN GERMANY” written on each pencil. Quality of the pencils is very bad and smudge a lot. Try to buy the original ones.
