A must-have for toddlers, we use these daily
We absolutely love the Melissa & Doug Poke-A-Dot Books and honestly can’t recommend them enough. I have multiple toddlers in my home and every single one who comes over is immediately drawn to these books — they all want to pop the dots and “read” along. Why we love them: • The pop-and-click dots are incredibly satisfying and keep little hands busy. • They hold toddlers’ attention far longer than regular board books. • The pages are sturdy, colorful, and easy for little ones to turn. • They encourage counting, colors, and early learning while still feeling like play. Real-life use: I have these out daily and they’re always the first books kids grab. Toddlers who normally won’t sit for books will actually stay engaged and focused with these, popping each dot and pointing to the pictures. Perfect gift: These are one of my go-to first birthday gifts because they’re fun, durable, and grow with the child. I’ve never given one without it becoming a favorite. If you’re looking for an interactive, mess-free, screen-free toy that encourages learning and keeps toddlers entertained, these books are a win.

Absolute hit with my toddler—bubble wrap in book form!
If you have a toddler who loves popping bubble wrap, this book is an absolute must-have. The "pop-tronic" buttons make a surprisingly satisfying click-pop sound when pushed, and the best part is that they make different sounds depending on whether you pop them from the front or the back of the page. It instantly captures little hands and keeps them focused. What we love: Genuinely Engaging: It combines counting, animal identification, and sensory play. My toddler will sit with this book far longer than a standard board book. Great Fine Motor Practice: Pressing the buttons takes just enough finger strength to help build fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Sturdy Construction: The pages are thick and heavy-duty, built to handle dropped corners and aggressive popping. A quick heads-up for parents: This is a heavy board book due to the built-in plastic popping mechanisms. It’s perfect for floor time, high chairs, or lap reading, but it’s a bit too heavy to pack in a lightweight diaper bag for long outings. Overall, it’s one of the best interactive books we own and makes a fantastic birthday or holiday gift. Highly recommend!

Fun and Adorable, but with a Few Drawbacks
It is an adorable and super fun way for kids to learn counting. The drawings are charming and engaging, and the poke-a-dot feature adds a tactile element that makes learning interactive and enjoyable. However, there are a few issues that prevent me from giving it a full five stars. Firstly, the book counts down from 10 to 1, which feels a bit odd. I think it would be more intuitive and effective for children to count from 1 to 10. Another concern is the durability. The book broke a bit after moderate use, which was disappointing. Additionally, the book is very thick and quite heavy for kids. Parents need to be cautious when their little ones try to lift it, as it can easily fall from their tiny hands and potentially cause injury. Despite these drawbacks, the book is still a fun and engaging educational tool that my child enjoys. With a few improvements, it could be even better.

Pop Till You Drop!
As the proud parent of a 10-month-old button-popping enthusiast, I can confidently say that the Melissa & Doug Poke-a-Dot: Old MacDonald’s Farm board book has turned our home into a delightful symphony of pops and giggles. My son can't get enough of it! Picture this: a tiny human, laser-focused on those irresistible dots, popping away with the determination of an Olympic athlete. Meanwhile, I belt out "Old MacDonald" like a Grammy-winning artist, complete with animal noises that would make a petting zoo jealous. Who knew we'd have such a dynamic duet in our living room? The best part? It's educational! At least, that's what I tell myself as we pop our way through yet another round of "E-I-E-I-O." The buttons are sturdy, perfect for little hands, and the book itself is built like a tank—ideal for withstanding the enthusiastic slaps of a baby determined to pop every single dot. In a stroke of parenting genius (or perhaps just desperation), I bought this book in two colors. Now, we can switch it up and keep the pop-a-thon going without a hitch. If you want a break from singing, just hand this book to your little one and watch the magic happen. In short, this book is a total win. It keeps my son entertained, helps me practice my farm animal impressions, and gives us both a reason to laugh. Highly recommend for anyone looking to add some poppin' fun to their parenting toolkit.

For young fans of Old MacDonald
My granddaughter loved this book from about age one. We had to sing the song for every page. She stood on it a few too many times and broke the spine, so don't let your one-year-old step on the open book. It's been taped/glued back together but she still loves it.

Watch your toes, the book is heavy
Help your child with the book especially if they are younger as it’s really heavy. My 17 month old enjoyed popping the dots. Hopefully when he’s older, he can use it to learn counting or simply enjoy the story.

Love it!
This is my daughter’s favourite by far, she got it when she was 15 months and absolutely loves it. She plays with the book by herself and we read and sing together as well as count the animals. I bet this will be one of those very long lasting toys!

Great book
Great book!! I’m sure my baby will love it. Some of the poppers don’t work properly but that’s not a big issue as they are mostly fine! Would definitely recommend it.

Hours of fun
It’s that good that everyone fights over it. Wish they were not as pricey here in Aus so we could grow our collection.
