Nice Little Hour Meter / Tach!
I recently installed a new engine in a piece of railroad equipment. Previously tracking maintenance intervals was sporadic. This little unit is simple to install, it has a 10 year internal battery, so no difficult wiring interface with the ignition system and vehicle power. The trigger signal comes from a pickup wire wrapped around an ignition wire. The Onan engine in my railcar is โlost sparkโ technology like a Harley. This unit can be adjusted for many different ignition schemes. Very easy to install, just wrap the trigger wire around a spark plug wire.

Might want to mount facing up towards the sky on a portable generator.
This unit is easy to install and appears to work well. I tested it together using another RPM measuring device and it appears to be accurate. The two-sided tape that is provided is very, very, very strong, so plan out where you want to put the device well before you actually stick it onto your portable generator. This is because it may be very difficult to remove once you stick down the two sided tape. If I had to affix/position this again, in hindsight, I would opt to have the screen on top of the generator with the display screen facing up towards the sky. It's very awkward to crouch down to see the display on the device if you mount it on the side of the generator. So, in hindsight I would have picked a spot on top of the generator so that the screen faces directly up so that you don't have to bend down to read the screen.

Great Device
I needed a tachometer to set the idle rpms on my motorcycle, a 2005 Yamaha Road Star Silverado, which doesn't have one. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on the high dollar tachs since I mainly wanted it as a tuning tool. So I priced a bunch of different inexpensive ones, read all the reviews and the Hardline seemed to consistently get the best reviews, so I got it. It's super easy to install and so far seems to be pretty accurate. After setting the idle rpms I took the bike for a ride, making mental notes of my rpms at different speeds while running in 5th gear. Then posted my numbers on a Road Star forum and people said my numbers were spot on. Since I purchased this as a tuning tool, I hadn't planned on leaving it on the bike. But when it was all said and done I decided it was pretty nice having a tach. So I made a little bracket and mounted it to the left handlebar. Pic was taken with the bike off, so the rpms aren't displayed. And I'm not concerned with the Hour meter, so I've never bothered to set it. As far as waterproofness goes, I haven't really put it to the test yet other than to wash the bike, which didn't seem to hurt it. But the entire unit seems to be sealed pretty good, so I don't anticipate any issues. The only real issue is that it's disposable. Since it is sealed, once the battery dies, that's it. Overall though I'm very glad I purchased it. And it's definitely served it's purpose. It may not be the classiest looking tach, but it works!

Great for tuning a 2 cycle engine.
This device works great for tuning on an Echo 2511T

Works as advertised...but
I have used similar products before on a generator. This one went on a DR Premier Field and Brush Mower. Let me say, it works as it short. But I had a couple of minor issues. First issue is that the wire that comes with it is just too short to reach the mounting location on the DR's handlebar area. I used the tape to stick it to the top of the engine area (not a HOT) area. The tape is very sticky, however, after about 1 hour of use it had vibrated loose anyway, and debris stuck on it, rendering it useless. I then used the two provided screws. Hopefully they don't come loose. Next issue is possibly user-error. When wrapping the wire around the spark plug wire, you are instructed to use a small zip-tie (provided) to secure the end of the wire. However, within an hour of use, the wire had worked itself free anyway. I have used a twist tie, and hopefully that will hold. Overall, this is a simple device and doing exactly what it should. 4 stars. I wish the wire was 2 feet longer, and there was a better means to secure the end that wraps the spark plug wire.

that were easily installed by either a drill-and-screw-on -or- peel-and-stick-on placement
I now own 4 of these high quality, really handsome, one-wire Tach/Hour meters, that were easily installed by either a drill-and-screw-on -or- peel-and-stick-on placement. Sadly, I wasted $$ on other Tach/Hourmeter brands sold here in this price range (and much cheaper) that all have wildly inaccurate Tach readings, less features and, I now know are not as classy looking as the HR-8061-2. After not being able to get stable or accurate Tach readings on those "other" poor performing units, even after trying other selectable firing intervals, 2, 3, 4, or 5 turns of the sense wire neatly coiled around the sparkplug wire, in BOTH directions from the sparkplug(!) I finally tried this more expensive HR-8061-2 meter. This Hardline Products device shows (engine stopped) with press-and-hold in Tach mode the Max RPM -or- with a press-and-hold in Hours mode the "Number of engine starts", with the MaxRPM being able to be selectively reset each run time by just continuing to hold down the meter's single button. Installed when new on my 4 year old log splitter before ever starting it showed 71 engine recoil starts, reminding me how many days of work and juice/water breaks I took. On my 4-stroke engined weed wacker, besides being priceless to keep track of the run times for engine oil changes, the maxRPM showed 9,860! One unit on each of my orange 2000W and yellow 3100W Inverter Generators ACCURATELY shows a stable, unchanging RPM reading when the engines are running steadily under a load. Being that you can access the hour reading (say, 48.1) with the engine running, re-fueling or oil change due data can be recorded or acted upon. As a 70-something retired career MotorCycle (Car/Truck/PowerEquipt) mechanic, take my word for it, this is the ONLY Tach/Hour Meter you should invest in.

Great product for my Honda EU2200i generator
Great product for my Honda EU2200i generator. I installed it before first use. I installed it on the B07G8ZYKG6 mounting bracket. This does not have a ground wire which is just one less wire to deal with. Do leave some slack and flex for maintenance with the wire but after that trim it. It's super plenty long and not much is required for this generator. I do recommend using the next size up zip tie than they provide. No issues it just looked super tiny. Note: The EU2200i does have a basic hour meter built in. The bottom light flashes once per hundred hours when the generator first starts. So it is a coarse read of the hundreds of hours it's run. I installed this anyway to track and log at a finer level and am happy I did.

Great tach for 2-strokes
Great tach for dialing in carb on 2-stroke engines. Fairly quick refresh rate, seemed around 0.5 seconds. It wasn't necessary to wrap the antenna wire around the spark plug wire, as shown in the installation manual. It worked well having the antenna close to or touching the spark plug wire.

. Good Quality
Have had two of these for several years now and the important thing is that they are reliable, Don't buy the cheap chinese copies as they are flat out lasting a few months.

Good product at reasonable cost
Product is shipped in reasonable time. Works as advertised. Convenient and cheaper than importing it yourself.

Lovely quality and accurate reading
Nicely packaged and works great. Seems to be well built for the size. The only down point was that there should have been some double sided tape in the packaging but it was missing. No real issue as I had some at home. As a product and quality, for me it's a five star.

Works well.
Only real problem with the unit is the wire provided is a bit short for what I wanted.
