It sure is, just really light and softish.

Are the finger holes wide enough for an adult?

Yes, and I have short fat fingers.🤣 they work great in my PE classes K-8.

can this ball be used in a real bowling alley?

These bowling balls are meant for HOME BOWLING ONLY. For kids you need a real 6lb ball for the Bowling Center. These are for the Cramer and Champion Carpet lanes, or plastic lanes, or a school program or camp. I use these on my home lanes which I built out of Plywood, I also own a 20' carpet lane. These are rubber and only for use as a toy or trainer.

If dropped, does it land with a thud, or does it bounce? For a magic trick I need a ball that is light but lands hard.

That's the same reason I bought it, for a magic trick. This ball will not make a loud thud on the floor as would a bowling ball.
