SMAKNRJ-11 RJ11 Telephone Modem Surge Protector Thunder Arrester

I use these to protect telephone access to 3 outdoor gate controllers. Over the last 4 years I’ve had to replace all three of the surge protectors “as they gave their lives for the cause”, but never had to replace the modems they protect. A cheap insurance policy and certainly a “5” rating.

I bought this device to protect against surges that were occurring on our phone line and have destroy DSL modem devices at a rate of one every six months to a year. This was one of the few surge protection options where people were saying it worked with DSL, and true enough - it does. That said, it is not transparent to the system. The attenuation caused by this device caused the negotiated speed of my DSL modem to drop from over 16Mbps down to 14Mbps without any other changes. DSL service continued to work, but you're likely to lose some speed. Depending on your situation that might be a worthy sacrifice, but for me I decided to remove the device. We're a five person family and unfortunately DSL is our only option, so every megabit counts. I still gave it three stars because if you're just looking for something to protect your phones - it is a well-built device.

I just upgraded my internet from VDSL to Bonded VDSL2 and my old inline surge protector wouldn't work. This works as it should, with no loss of speed (checked with speed test and in the modem GUI). ISP: Centurylink Modem: Zyxel c3000z.

I have to give this a good store for quality, it is very well made, but am unable to test it,I bought it for my AT&T DSL line, and I have not been able to find anotherpatch cable that works... Sorry, this review is inconclusive !!

This needs a second telephone cable to install (not included). It has a ground wire to attach to something = I am not sure what. It would be nice if it had all the cables, wires and such included, and maybe some directions about what to do with the ground wire.

Installed several months ago on an alarm panel. We took a BIG lighting strike on our property and the unit saved our panel. $16 dollars vs. $1,600.

I am purchasing another unit to replace its elder sibling that paid the ultimate price while protecting $200 worth of hardware.

Tested about 10 times plugged in and not plugged in and this device definitely keeps my answering machine from working when I get calls. I can call my home number using a cell and the results are repeatable.
