This is a beautiful set. All the wood is very nice to look at, the board, the pieces. I didn't find any flaws with this. The craftsmanship is top notch. I like having the additional queens in the set.The whole family wants to play chess now. My wife doesn't usually take an interest in these kinds of things, but she was very impressed.At first I was drawn to the pieces sold by themselves. Then I also wanted a board and a good storage option. Most of the storage options were to throw the pieces into a wooden box. That was okay but I wanted to keep the pieces looking their best. All of the foam insert type boxes were unrealistically expensive. I also wanted to pick out a nice board separate. Then I found this option where Pleasant Times put it all together. I like how everything is in ONE complete set - the pieces, the board, the storage. Now we can have a NICE CLASSY Chess Set and still be able to put it safely away for next time. I wasn't sure if pieces were going to be too big. (4" King) But I think that it is just the perfect size for a small card table. The case over-wrap is synthetic but it is really nice for keeping things together and securing the folded board/storage unit. This is a beautiful chess set with detailed pieces that have amazing craftsmanship! The board has screw in metal padded feet that makes the board very stable. The size is a little bigger than I expected but is simply a joy to play a game of chess on. I matter your skill level. We have made it a nice center piece due to the beautiful nature of the wood that have very cool details for each piece. Definitely worth the money if you want a fantastic chess set! Also has two queens which is very nice to have!!!!

I can honestly say this is the nicest set I've ever owned. I've had it only a week now, but in terms of the feel and quality of the pieces and board, I suspect it will last many years. The workmanship is excellent, the finish is beautiful, and even the faux leather protective case looks wonderful. The pieces are all sturdy and feel like they can gracefully take abuse, but I am concerned that the delicate protrusions on the knight's mane and the queen's crown could be broken if the pieces were dropped from a few feet up onto a hard surface. Obviously I am loath to test their durability to see if I am right, but they very well might hold out better than I fear.The internal storage slots grip and hold the pieces firmly, and are cut exactly to the shape of each piece. Even the way the pieces are laid out within the storage area is pleasant to look at, which you can see in the pictures provided by the seller. I have some very minor gripes about the glue holding the felt-lined foam interior to the inside of the board (it has either given out in one place or was not uniformly applied to begin with), but this is nowhere near enough to lose a star in my view, considering the overall quality of the product. If at some point, years from now, the glue fails entirely, it will be very easy to repair, and I will still have a beautiful set.If you're in the market for a gorgeous, durable wooden 21"x21" folding set with striking pieces and extra queens, and the price doesn't put you off, you're unlikely to regret this purchase.

Hello all,I am writing this somewhat unusual review, which is a combination of a product review and a post-sales customer service perspective.I ordered this set on 9/15/2022, almost 2 years ago, and have enjoyed playing it pretty much every day since. I am a decently competitive player, so this set is not for the showcase, but bears the brunt of daily practice and competition, on occasion. It is a beautiful, solid, and well-made set that will probably be good enough for my grandchildren. A heirloom piece, for sure.In any case, I recently lost a black pawn in my travels and was quite a bit distraught, as can be expected. So, I wrote to the original manufacturer in India for a replacement. To my utter wonderment, not only were they extremely prompt in responding to my request for the replacement, but they sent me 2 black pawns as a replacement, all the way from India, all for the paltry sum of $15, which was all inclusive of shipping. All of this came to me in less than 10 days.I must make a special note of thanks to Gary from 'House of Chess'.
