do you need a special crimp tool?

You dont NEED IT (if your mechanically inclined) but highly recommend it. Much easier and quicker with tool specially since i used entire package in one day

What is the correct crimping tool for these connectors?

I used the open barrel terminal crimp tool. Worked great!

Is there an assembly video? Especially for inserting the retainer.

Like almost all other brands of waterproof automotive style connectors, these are also able to be disassembled (ontrary to some comments in this thread). However, to remove the pins from the housing, it's helpful to have the correct removal tool... various styles of shim-like picks to slide past the assembly and depress the "latch" that retain the assembly inside the housing. In many cases, you could make your own device, but it's so much easier to have the correct tool. I found a package of 20 or so of these pics meant for virtually every brand you can think of! I found them here on amazon, I'm sorry I don't have the link... With enough searching and poking around these style of connectors, eventually they'll pop up on your screen! (I'm sorry I can't locate the link for the tools I bought approximately 6 years ago)
