This is not a renewal, the model kits never got the renewal treatment like the DX Chogokin line. This is a model kit you have to assemble.

Q: can the pilot be removed?

No, the cockpit does not open and the pilot is only half a figure. He cannot come out.

Q: Should I use the waterslide decals, the marking stickers or both?

Hi. I found the water slide decals better to use, but at least you have a backup available in case one tears.
